Visiting the Smith Center for the Performing Arts (Las Vegas)

Las Vegas is not known for the arts.

The closest one comes here to a world-class symphony orchestra or a Tony Award-winning musical is a time clock-punching seventy-five-minute show at one of the major casinos on the Vegas Strip.  Even though the greater Las Vegas valley is home to more than a million residents, a bona fide home for cultural events and the arts did not exist — until now.

The Reports of Poker’s Death are Greatly Exaggerated

The mainstream media often get things notoriously wrong.

Consider the case of Mark Twain’s “death” being erroneously reported in the (now-defunct) New York Journal daily newspaper in 1897, eliciting his famous quote in response, “the report of my death was an exaggeration.”

It seems mainstream media haven’t learned much over the last 116 years.  In recent months, major media have reported poker’s popularity is declining.

Why I’m Now in Favor of Waterboarding

The best Italian restaurant in Las Vegas is…

….Olive Garden.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the annual “Readers Choice Awards” released yesterday, Olive Garden was voted as the “Best Italian Restaurant” in Las Vegas.”  This appeared in the 2013 edition of the “Best of Las Vegas” section.

Excuse me for a moment.

A Phil Ivey Story

The first thing I heard was the roar of the engine.

It was Phil Ivey’s silver Mercedes SLR McLaren and the beast was barreling straight towards me.

If I ever get flattened by a motor vehicle, I hope to hell it’s a $285,000 luxury car.  What a way to go out with a bang.  Far more chivalrous getting mowed down by Ivey who’s late for his golf match than being mashed by some late-night boozer wheeling a Dodge Neon.
