The Wildfires of Hate are Burning

I didn’t want to write this. I didn’t want to post this. But now, I must.

The astounding depth of venom, criticism, and grotesque disinformation engulfing all social media platforms right now about what’s happening in Southern California is —- unbelievable. Honestly, I can’t believe what I’m seeing and reading.

Two Flags, One Nation

Today, I’m struck by two very different images of the American flag.

One photo was taken here in Las Vegas. It shows the flag waving beneath gathering storm clouds overhead. Most of you will understand the metaphors. The flag is flying at half-mast in tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter, who died last week. Another photo was taken from a live television news report on the terrible fires currently engulfing many parts of Los Angeles. That photo shows a flag badly tattered by deadly fire, smoke, and wind, but still waving in its old glory, nonetheless.

Remembering President Jimmy Carter

The word “great” is too often overused to the point it has no meaning.

Not in this case.

Jimmy Carter was a great man. A great father. A great husband. A great giver. A great man of his faith. A great American. A great soldier. A great believer in justice. A great man of courage. A great example of altruism and selflessness. A great man of truth worthy of our trust. A great inspiration for us all, regardless of politics.

His presidency gets a mixed grade as do all leaders in challenging times, but in retrospect he may have been exactly what America needed in the aftermath of Vietnam and Watergate when we longed to believe in ourselves again. His post-presidency defines the very essence of giving back to society and the greatness of genuine love.

What a life.

Thank you, President Jimmy Carter.

Who Gets the Credit Today, and Who Will Get the Blame Tomorrow?

WHO GETS THE CREDIT?

Here’s a photo I took yesterday of a massive apartment building under construction here in Las Vegas.

All over our city, we see similar projects being built. Dozens of buildings with thousands of new units are rising from the desert valley. Moreover, a record number of single-family homes have been constructed this year all over the city. We’re experiencing a building boom. [see footnote below]
