Will College Prop Betting Be Banned?

Here’s my new article at casinos.com on bans against prop betting on college athletes.

“The pushback against college prop betting continues to gain momentum. Encouraged by their regulatory successes, proponents of such bans are likely to take the fight into more states – and likely win. The impetus to protect college athletes from external pressures is strong, and no organization is more powerful than the NCAA, especially in states where college football and basketball are king. By contrast, sports gamblers have no lobbying organization. Even the casino industry is unlikely to fight much on behalf of such a small sliver of market share interest.”

Recommendation: Patisserie Manon (on West Charleston in Las Vegas)

RECOMMENDATION: PATISSERIE MANON BAKERY / DELI (ON WEST CHARLESTON)

Patisserie Manon (bakery) opened in 2010 on W. Charleston, in a strip mall directly behind the Fleming’s Steakhouse. We’ve been here many times. However, I’d forgotten what a great value their dine-in lunch specials are — which are always fresh and delicious.

In Guy Ritchie’s latest Netflix series, crime is art and profanity is pure poetry

The Gentlemen is the best show I’ve watched on Netflix this year.

The eight-part series (one hour per episode) reveals writer-director Guy Ritchie at the very pinnacle of his storytelling and cinematic craftsmanship. But it’s the riveting in-your-face-chew-it-up-and-spit-it-out performances from everyone in the assembled cast that makes The Gentlemen such a wildly entertaining – and often hysterically funny — crime caper.

VEGAS: THE STORY OF SIN CITY (EP 3)

Episode 3 of the quasi-History of Las Vegas documentary aired last night on CNN.

As with the first two segments, there were many revelations and even a few surprises. I tend to be cynical about these dumbed-down, spoon-feeders for the masses. However, this CNN production has done a terrific job (so far) in capturing the evolution of Las Vegas — melding the worlds of gambling, entertainment, social evolution, crime, business, and politics.

RELIGION RIDICULOUSITY #3

This neighborhood sucks.

The “Holy Bible” is packed with spite, revenge, violence, death, genocide, and even eternal torture. Bible scriptures include justifications for slavery, sexism, discrimination, and war. The Bible would be a horrible book to follow based these inconvenient truths alone.
