kennedy assassination

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  Some 19 months before that tragic day, I was born in Dallas.  My family lived in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, which is where Lee Harvey Oswald also resided and was ultimately captured.  In today’s column, I’d like to tell you a bit more about what life was like growing up in the shadows of the Kennedy Assassination, as I remember it.

Of all the places I’ve run, higher elevations are always the most challenging.

The higher up you go, the less oxygen there is to breathe.  While “sea level” versus “5,000 feet” might not seem like a big difference, it really is — especially when you’re working out and gasping for air.  This becomes critical after a few miles because there’s just not enough oxygen to breathe without getting a bit light-headed.

Then again — would our lives actually turn out any better if we could do them over and over until we finally got it right?  What about the lives of those around us?  Wouldn’t their lives be disrupted too and turn out differently?  What if everyone else is perfectly happy with how things turned out the first time around?  Do they get to voice an opinion?  These are a few of the serious questions worth pondering in the new film “About Time.”

the-crepe

How difficult is it to make a crepe?

Well, it might as well be rocket science if you’re dining at the newest cafe-restaurant which just opened up at Tivoli Village, in Summerlin.  Wanna’ guess what the name of this new place is?  Try this:  The Crepe.

The most outrageous thing about our lunchtime visit today was — WE NEVER GOT ANY CREPES!
