Former Sen. Trent Lott: Sheldon Adelson Hires Yet Another Burned-Out Money Whore

Is there anything Trent Lott won’t do for a fast buck?

The former U.S. Senator and ex-Majority Leader from Mississippi announced last week he’s joining forces with anti-online poker zealot Sheldon Adelson as a paid shill and sock puppet for the loathsome billionaire bully who appears willing to go to any lengths to keep this floundering non-issue with the general public alive in the tainted legislative corridors of Washington, where throwing enough money around can buy just about anything.  Adelson, so utterly desperate to enlist allies on Capitol Hill to do his bidding, previously hired other burned-out flunkies to magpie his easy-to shred talking points in support of federal legislation to outlaw all forms of online gambling/poker.  The glassy-eyed gauntlet includes former Sen. Blanche Lincoln, former Mayor Willie Brown, and even ex-Gov. George Pataki.  And now, Trent Lott.

So far, it’s been an ugly and brazen campaign funded almost entirely by a hypocritical casino mogul with absolutely no understanding whatsoever of how technologies work, who is determined to block Americans access to poker sites and stop other forms of recreational Internet gambling in order to further buttress his economic empire, with its own myriad of current legal entanglements.

It might correctly be pointed out that by joining forces with Adelson’s so-called Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, Lott’s not all that much different from the rest of his contemptible former colleagues so eager to ride in a first-class seat on the influence-peddling money train.  After all, this is precisely what so many of our former elected officials do, as though because now it’s become so prevalent, the sheer frequency of the corruption and conflicts of interest somehow excuse the crooked revolving door that rotates between elected office and lucrative seats on corporate boards and lobbying firms.

But since leaving the U.S. Senate seven years ago, Trent Lott has taken debauchery to new lows.  For enough money, he’ll clearly suck any cock in the political barnyard.  Not even his fellow Republicans and most staunch defenders can possibly defend his dealings on behalf of the Russians, which have paid Lott and his D.C.-based lobbying firm at least $450,000 in order to undermine economic sanctions imposed on that nation in the wake of Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine.

If you think this is some made-up far-Left story, you’d be wrong.  Consider the source is Bloomberg News, not exactly a bastion of liberalism.  Read more here:

Imagine that.  A former Senate Majority Leader, a staunch Republican, unabashedly working for the Russians — including shady banks and oil companies which are working to undercut the initiatives of our own government.  So, next time you hear Lott or one of his paid allies squawk about “President Obama’s failed foreign policies,” or accuse him of “being soft on Putin,” take a closer look at where he’s getting his money.  Lott isn’t just a whore.  He’s a trickster actively working against American interests.

And finally, let’s not forget the hidden ugliness inside Trent Lott revealed when he left dinner guests aghast about a decade ago during an otherwise lighthearted celebratory gathering with the late Sen. Strom Thurmond when one old former Southern segregationist supporter praised the other (READ:  TRENT LOTT’S SEGREGATIONIST COLLEGE DAYS), leading to a national outcry calling for Lott to immediately resign from office.  Referring to Sen. Thurmond’s independent bid for the presidency in 1948 in which he expressed his hard-line views on race and outspoken opposition to civil rights, Lott said, if Thurmond had won the presidency, “we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.”

Wow.  Just wow.

Let the record show this is the kind of wretched mercenary Sheldon Adelson is now hiring to do his dirty work on Capitol Hill.  Indeed, if a man’s character is defined by the kind of company he keeps, Adelson and Lott were made for one another.

Postscript:  There’s also strong evidence to suggest that Sen. Lott’s “early retirement” from office was motivated by his ambition to cash in on the loophole that existed regarding former government officials engaging in lobbying that was set to take effect and would have been in place had Lott served his full term.  As my friend “Tiger” pointed out on Facebook:

“The one thing (most important thing?) to introduce might have been a reference to why Trent Lott resigned from the Senate when he did.  The lobbying rules were about to change, and Lott (already in trouble for his long-time support for Strom Thurmond) didn’t want to wait two years before he could cash in on his past.”
