A Disability Doesn’t Mean Disabled

 

 

When we see a business hire a mentally or physically challenged person, it really says something about the business and its management.

For example, here in Las Vegas, the local movie theatre we frequent hired a mentally-challenged young man as a ticket taker. He’s the guy who stands on his feet for an entire shift, always scans each movie ticket carefully, looks the person directly in the eye, and then tells them which theatre the movie is playing in and which direction to go (even though the number is printed clearly on the ticket).

At first, this speech seemed like overkill. Almost like clearing customs. Then, each time we went in and saw the young man, he’s given the same speech in a loud voice that made it clear he struggles with words at times, but is also very, very, very proud of his job.

He’s been at that movie theatre for close to ten years now. And, I love hearing his speech.
