If You’re Under 25, Your Music is Fucking Garbage

You show me a machine or a computer program that can match the stellar majesty of Lauritz Melchior singing “Nessun Dorma,” and I’ll acknowledge it as music.  Until then, it’s fucking garbage.

If you’re under 25 years old — or an immature 30-plus — I’m about to set your ass straight.

So, listen up.

Your music is fucking garbage.

There, I said it.

Mindless crap.  Eardrum-bursting, dagger-in-the-eyes, ass-bagging, blow your fucking brains out — unadulterated dog shit.  That pretty much sums up the type of music that’s popular with today’s young people.

Listen, you stupid sons of bitches.  I’m talking at you.  I’m your elder.  My opinion demands respect.

Your music hasn’t got life.  It’s fucking dead.  Your music is void of humanity.  It’s as fake as a porn queen’s orgasm.  There’s no soul.  It’s tripe.  It’s a carp in the sea of music.  The stuff you listen to was created by fucking machines.

Today’s “artists” — there’s an oxymoron — don’t even need to know how to play musical instruments or sing.  In other words, no fucking talent whatsoever is needed to succeed today in music.  You heard me.  No.  Talent.  Whatsoever.

And, I’m fucking sick of it because the current generation is taking the gold we gave you and dragging it into a sewer.

Listen up, you little pricks.  I’m not stuck in some kind of classic rock time warp.  Fact is, I expose myself to many different kinds of music.  I give all music a chance.  Even the techno-trash littering the modern music scene is something I’ve tried to digest, which I found to be like choking down a plate of raw oysters laced with salmonella.

It would be nice to enjoy fresh musical acts.  I want to hear new songs.  I like some young people, especially when they get my order right.  But real music is written and performed by humans, not a fucking computer program linked up to a laser show.

Fact:  The more fancy gadgets and distractions you need, the most your music just flat out sucks.

Music should convey some sense of humanity — who we are, and what we feel.  I know that’s a hard concept to digest since your idea of a relationship is picking up a new Twitter follower.  Where’s the love and romance in the mind-numbing rubbish that’s played at most nightclubs?  Is there any conveyance pain and loss?  Or pride and joy?  How about playing a catchy tune that’s just fun to sing along with?

Is that too much to fucking ask?

I don’t expect to like everything that’s new.  As an amateur observer of the human condition, I freely acknowledge that successive generations are obliged to a continuation of the species which sometimes entails pushing boundaries and violating the preferences of their elders.  History shows the more radically different one generation is from one to the next, the greater degree of innovations are sparked from such permutations.  Music is just one by-product of inevitable cultural and technological shifts, sometimes mislabeled as advances.

Yes, yes, yes!  New music should piss off plenty of parents and leathery jokers like me.  At least I’ll accept “cultural evolution” as being inevitable, and necessary.

If you don’t believe this, take a look at the past century.  Nearly a hundred years ago, traditional musicians hated a new sound called jazz.  Later, jazz loyalists despised rock n’ roll and even the early sound of Motown.  After that, the rockers hated disco music.  Then, just about everyone hated New Wave and the 1980’s.  Next came rap music which irritated everyone over the age of 30.  Now, it’s hip hop and something called dubstep, which is essentially music made by computers and sound-making software.  This garbage makes rap sound like fucking Amadeus.

There’s a reason this “music” is used as a weapon on suspected terrorists, forcing them to wear earphones and being bombarded with such abuse for hours.  I’m not making this up.  This is the brain-frying shit they put on the headphones and strap to the ears of prisoners who are handcuffed behind their backs and sit naked in jail cells while they are forced to endure this madness.  I’d rather blow my fucking brains out, and if I ever did managed to get out, I’d be running off to join the nearest terrorist cell in order to extract my revenge.

Have a listen this rubbish (CLICK BELOW) if you can stand it for more than a few seconds:

.

I know what you’re thinking.  You want to go after my music.  You want to blast away at me.  Go ahead, fuckers.  See if you can top what I like at the conclusion of this article.  You’re drawing so fucking dead you should even be in my game.

So, what constitutes real music?  Here’s a list of things I believe to be essential.

REAL MUSIC DEFINED BY NOLAN DALLA:

(1)  Real music is created by humans, not by a machine or a computer.

(2)  Real music has structure and consistency.

(3)  Real music elicits real emotions — of love, loss, anger, fear, happiness, hope, inspiration, or anything related to the gambit of being human.

(4)  Real music requires talent.

(5)  Real music requires instruments and/or voices.

(6)  Real music should be cross generational.

(7)  Real music shouldn’t need gadgets or special effects to be enjoyed.

Here and now, I’ll leave you with a video clip of real music (CLICK BELOW).  When one of those fucking machines creates a sound that can somehow match this magical majesty, then give me a call.  Until then, don’t label what you listen to as “music.”  It’s not music.  It’s garbage.

Writer’s Note:  I wrote this over-the-top satirical outrage back in 2013, not expecting it to become the third-highest rated post on my website, with more than 100,000 page views.  Had I know that trolling could generate such high traffic, I probably would have utilized the tactic more often.  That said, I’ve come to modify my position somewhat on modern music.  There’s an astonishing array of excellent high-tech, computer-generated sound that’s as profoundly creative as anything ever written and recorded.  I continue to express some bewilderment at what masquerades as “popular music” today.  Much of it is garbage.  However, I wish to amend my previous remarks and withdraw the blanket condemnation of anything enjoyed by listeners under the age of 25.  Now, please continue to post the often hilariously hateful comments below.  Regards.

  1. oh so that means you hate How To Train Your Dragon music too hmm…
well you are my enemy from now to forever!

  2. I hate the fuckin dusbtep, electro shit big room house and new pop bastards like Bieber,Selena Gomez,Nicky Minaj,Pitbull and others fuckin asholess.
The music today is shit, all is absolute noise, nothing creative.
Long life the real music Rock n Roll,Reggae and blues the music of devil.

    • I listen to hardstyle and electro both of which are very creative. I also listen to rock and roll, and jazz. They are differant genres of music. And if you think that making electro or hardstyle is easy then go buy Fl studio, pro tools, or any other DAW and see how much audio engineering it takes to make it.

    • I read this on another post! what you go around copy and pasting on every edm site or debate?

    • Thank you so much for this!!! I strongly support that today’s music really is f*cking garbage. I hate it, it’s annoying and way too overrated.

  3. The problem I have with this article is that it equates all of modern music to the 40 songs played on the radio. The top songs use aspects of music created by real, less popular artists in a cookie-cutter type of way. It was the same way back in the “Golden Age” of music. The rock in the 70s would have never been the same without the obscure at the time Velvet Underground. Before you blanket all modern music as garbage try to search for artists that are actually creating solid music and great albums while innovating. One that comes to mind is Tame Impala. The lead singer, Kevin Parker, started by primarily playing guitar, but eventually learned the nuances of electronics. He creates all of the parts on his own, and only uses a full band for touring. The song “Let it Happen” has more production nuance to the drums than most musicians ever use in their entire career. His songs are dense electro-scapes, but at the heart are emotional lyrics about breakup and change. This is only one of many lesser known artists in modern times. I only thought of him because he combines traditional rock song structure with electronics better than arguably anyone.

  4. I like this article/post. It speaks volumes about the music that’s bouncing around these days. I won’t lie, I liked the trance and progressive trance scene from 1997 to around 2003. But the modern pop/cheesy vocal garbage going around these days annoys the life out of me. I mean take, Rhianana as a prime example. The lyrics to her songs sound like they’ve been thought up by a dyslexic 10 year old. It’s almost always the same word or small selection of words repeated over and over, and some of it doesn’t even make sense, it’s almost as if in complete arrogance she has thought;

” pfft these morons will buy whatever crap I put out so lets just make a song where I keep singing, work work work work work, dirt dirt dirt dirt, love love love love love..and hey presto, I’ll make millions off of this shit too”

I’m sorry but it’s a fact, most of the music now and that includes pop, rock, indie, dub, hip hop the newer so called club/house/trance stuff, I’d say around 90% of all of it, is complete and utter SHIT. Mind numbing crap.

I still prefer the 1997 – 2004-4 trance, and anything classical by the likes of Motzart, beethoven, Handel and others, plus a lot of music released in the 20s through early 90s. You can include jazz and the blues in this too. Love it.

  5. Love u Dude ^^ so f…. right

  6. AMEN, NOLAN! you said it right! Todays “music ” is pure garbage, mainly dominated by the female eardrum-piercing whiny nasaly CRAP and NO instrumental, just piped in shit. Yes, music to hang yourself to!!!

  7. AEJOTZ music is hand played on synthesizers. Is it real music or is it fucking garbage?

  8. I was at a barbecue yesterday and an under 25 girl said “it would be strange to go to an Adele concert as they would have listen to the music as you couldn’t dance to it” That seemed such a strange comment to me as I have ONLY ever been to concerts to LISTEN to music and never to dance. Do other youngsters only think that way.

  9. Here’s a song from India (Bollywood), and I challenge ANYONE to call it garbage after giving 1 full listening.

This song has beauty, validity, and comes from the heart, unlike most US Pop. There is actually quite a bit if Hindi pop that is very good, and this isa prime example:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHWzN0E8wj0

  10. Being an EDM artist, I think the point you made was shit. First of all, most of the people on here are probably fucking 8 year olds saying that dubstep is shit and Justin Bieber is the best. I disagree with all of you mainstream pieces of shit because I feel that EDM is real music. If it can be listened to then, it is considered real music. Soon nobody will be using actual instruments anymore because we have computers that can make the same sound using actual instrument samples. Another thing that bothers me is when some artists change their genre style to EDM for a while. I’m going to use Linkin Park as an example. Basically, Linkin Park made the A Thousand Suns album which, In my opinion, was really good. Some people hated it because they thought Linkin Park was changing. Linkin Park is a band that likes to experiment with music and that is the reason their genre is Alternative Rock. Then, Linkin Park did collaborations with Steve Aoki. Steve Aoki is an EDM producer and I love his music. They did a song with Steve Aoki called “A light that never comes” and people hated it because it included dubstep elements. Linkin Park was only experimenting with their music because a year later their Hunting Party album came out and sounded like their old sound but, with some new sounds added. Most of the people here are stuck in the past and probably just 40 year olds who like to rape people playing Pokemon Go. I’m 14 by the way and I know the reason all of you are here. All you people probably just have a problem with Skrillex and just listen to country music. People go to concerts to dance or just listen to the music. Before you go hating on me for saying this shit, I do listen to some of the stuff you consider “real” music like, Linkin Park for example. One last thing is that you may be thinking that it is easy to create EDM music and you know what, you guys are all wrong. Being an EDM producer, I have to draw out all the notes one by one and then mess around with the sound. I also have to write out the drums and bass. It is way more difficult then you faggots think.

    • I’ve been producing electronic music for almost 20 years (well before the term “EDM” ever existed) so I want to like what you are saying but sound like a child… which I guess you are but please, you’re not helping. Please sit down.

P.S. Aoki is garbage. Please research the roots of your sound and understand what real electronic music is. Clicking inside your pirated DAW does not make you an aficionado.

  11. Check out the band GHOST. they just won a grammy for best metal performance, they have a wonderful blue oyster cult/doors sound, beautiful stage show and some songs feature church choir. they are a breath of fresh air in such a bland music world

  12. nolan sucks pop music is cool i mean look at ed sheeran or taylor swift 2 very famous people becose of they songs and ques what kind or usic they sing pop music and also katy perry and very more people pop music is cool and very big

  13. Just saying, I’m 16 and I hate today’s music, and love your example of Nessun Dorma. My favourite music is Muse though, which you may or may not agree with, though I don’t really care.

  14. Opinionated much? Didn’t even read past the first paragraph and that’s apparent. Hip hop, pop, EDM, this “garbage” is not going anywhere anytime soon fortunately. A waste of keystrokes as far as I’m concerned.

  15. ROFL I feel bad for all the idiots who listen to rap and “hip hop” because they think it makes them cool. ROFL what bunch of morons with no self respect. “I’m gonna listen to garbage that talks about killing, stealing, and raping, just because the media tells me it’s cool. LMAOO this world is going down the shitter with all these ignorant fucks everywhere.

  16. Music is nothing more than sound waves, interpreted by our ears. One sound wave can be interpreted by one person as glorious and inspiring but also interpreted by another as horrific. Example: the YouTube link referenced in this article. I wouldn’t listen to that if you paid me, it’s horrible. But to someone else it represents the pinnacle of musical talent. It’s purely subjective because humans are subjective in nature, which means one sound cannot be right nor be wrong to anyone other than the listener.

  17. Dear Mr. Nolan,

Thank you for your opinion. It will be an honor to meet you for a drink and shake your hand. Hopefully one day when I’m in Vegas. I’m an audio engineer, I live in NYC. Once again thank you for the inspiring article. I love it.
    Cheers

  18. Thanks for deleting my comment Mr. NOLAND.

  19. I am 17, and I aspire to be a songwriter. My boyfriend, also 17, is a big fan of oldies, and complains a lot that he was born in the wrong generation, which I believe is just about as stupid as anime fans who wannabe Japanese. I remember I was one of those stupid anime otaku kids, 5 years ago now, and now here currently is my boyfriend, unironically half-fuckin’-Japanese, who wishes he were born in the early 20th fuckin’century; I ask him, “do you know what they’d do to your skinny lil’ Nisei ass in the goddamned 1930’s!?”
(I don’t know what the abso-fuckin’-lute hell I’m going on about anymore. He showed me this link, it’s 4am, I can’t sleep, and I’ve got caffeine and adrenaline running through my veins. Okay. Bite me.)

    • To be a member of the “oldies” generation, your boyfriend would have had to be born mid-century, 1940-1950, or thereabouts. The early 20th century saw a generation of flappers, social upheaval that led to two brutal world wars and the Russian Revolution, but not a whole lot of rock and roll. My grandparents were born prior to those times. They were into hymns, 50s television, and family meals at the table, but I never once caught them furtively enjoying hit tunes of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, or The Who.

  20. All music of today has a maximum shelf life of a month, tops a year. Before it is deservedly forgotten, and never played again. Whereas, music from prior to 20 years ago gets replayed, redone, and butchered over and over again because of its quality. None of the shit of today would be replayed or copied due to the fact that there isn’t any quality to it to begin with. Technology, has helped with our current generation to be lazy, anti social, and stupid. Trends like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the shit they call music today, proves that technology is reversing mankinds progress.

  21. In case you don’t already know, you should be aware that the Tacoma area has a terrible public disturbance noise problem. I am mainly referring to the following: 1) Loud subwoofer thumping noises that are blasted through walls and into homes by vehicles and can be heard for several blocks. 2) Loud exhaust noises from vehicles with mufflers removed or with loud “sport” mufflers. 3) Loud sound systems playing inside homes that can be heard inside homes that are many houses away. 4) Fireworks exploded any random time, day or night, 365 days a year, even when no holiday is near. The people doing this are intentionally trying to harass and menace everybody in the community! This is criminal behavior and there is a serious lack of enforcement of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72. Loud subwoofers heard from 50+ feet away are illegal. Unmuffled or loud vehicle exhausts, are misdemeanor crimes. The law is very clear and explicit here. The residents of Pierce County do not have to accept this criminality! Please read the law and contact government officials, including law enforcement, and demand that the law be enforced! Loud low-frequency thumping in particular causes violent and explosive emotions in people. There have been many violent incidents and even killings, occurring here and around the nation, that were touched off by loud music being forced into people’s homes. No wonder decent people do not want to move here, crime is high, property values are low, and criminals figure if they can get away with public disturbance, they can get away with any other crime. We do not have to accept this constant disturbance of the peace. It is illegal! The quality of life will remain low here until the residents do something about this.

Clips from the current version (2016/2017) of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72:
Chapter 8.72 MOTOR VEHICLE, PUBLIC DISTURBANCE, AND PUBLIC NUISANCE NOISE
8.72.040 Mufflers. It is unlawful for any person to operate, or for any owner to permit any person to operate, any motor vehicle or motorcycle upon the public highways which is not equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation.
8.72.070 Exhaust System. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway if the vehicle exhaust system exceeds the maximum permissible sound levels set forth below for the category of vehicle, as measured at a distance of twenty inches (0.5 meter) from the exhaust outlet under procedures established by the State of Washington in Washington Administrative Code Chapter 173-58-080, “Close Proximity Exhaust System Sound Level Measurement Procedure.” Motorcycles 99 dB(A)/Automobiles, light trucks, and all other motor vehicles 10,000 pounds or less 95 dB(A).
8.72.090 Public Disturbance Noises. It is unlawful for any person to cause, or for any person in possession of property to allow to originate from the property, a public disturbance noise. The following sounds are public disturbance noises:…
    C. Frequent, repetitive, or continuous sounds from starting, operating, repairing, rebuilding, or testing of any motor vehicle, motorcycle, dirt bike, or other off-highway vehicle, or any internal combustion engine, within a rural or residential district, including vacant property adjacent thereto, so as to unreasonably disturb or interfere with the peace, comfort, and repose of owners or possessors of real property…
    F. Any loud and raucous sound made by use of a musical instrument, whistle, sound amplifier, or other device capable of producing or reproducing sound which emanates frequently, repetitively, or continuously from any building, structure or property, such as sound originating from a band session, tavern operation, or social gathering and which unreasonably disturb or interfere with the peace, comfort, and repose of owners or possessors of real property in the area affected by such noise…
    H. Public disturbance noise from portable or motor vehicle audio equipment: While in park areas, residential or commercial zones, or any area where residences, schools, human service facilities, or commercial establishments are in obvious proximity to the source of the sound, it is unlawful for any person to negligently cause, make, or allow to be made from audio equipment under such person’s control or ownership the following:
    1. Sound from a motor vehicle or vessel sound system, such as a tape player, radio, or compact disc player, which is operated at such a volume that it could be clearly heard by a person of normal hearing at a distance of 50 feet or more from the vehicle or vessel itself;
    2. Sound from audio equipment such as a tape player, radio, or compact disc player, which is operated at such a volume that it could be clearly heard by a person of normal hearing at a distance of 50 feet or more from the source of the sound;
8.72.120 Enforcement… C. The Sections of this Chapter relating to motor vehicles and vessels and noise emanating from vehicles and vessels, shall be subject to enforcement proceedings with or without a citizen’s complaint.
8.72.130 Violation – Penalty. A. Any person violating any motor vehicle performance standard of this Chapter, or who shall create, keep, maintain, or allow to occur any noise related to motor vehicle performance standards, as defined herein, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

  22. I don’t think it is fair to generalize all persons under twenty-five as people who listen to modern garbage. There is indeed a ton of popular music today that I agree is not good at all, but there is so much other music out there that is being created all the time that is amazing; you just have to dig for it. A handful of people my age (20 years of age) try as hard as they can to listen to as much new music as they can get their hands on; they don’t just rely on mainstream radio. We also don’t just listen to new crap. There are plenty of us who enjoy older rock and pop groups from the mid to late 20th century. Not all of us are brainwashed slaves to the media that feed on mindless music.

  23. My god you’re fucking dumb

  24. I find myself hoping this is satire. If not, please grow up; more recent music doesn’t take anything away from whatever it is you think is music. A style or type of music will only grow if it is promoted by some sort of fan base. A fan base will only develop if the music appeals to some group of people. People have a right to enjoy whatever they want provided it doesn’t negatively effect others.

  25. okay so listen i would respect this article if not for these facts:
first of all, this is sort of counter productive? compare this to drawing.
imagine you have a 9 year old. they give you a shitty drawing of an anime character. the face is wonky as shit, the eyes don’t match, and they pressed down too hard with their pencil. do you tell them, “this is fucking shit. you call this art??? why are you upset with me??????? i’m your elder!!! respect me!!!!!!!!!!!” or do you say, “you’re getting better!!! maybe don’t press so hard with the pencil, it’ll make it easier to fix mistakes! if you turn it upside down or to the side, you can see symmetry mistakes easier! it’s lookin’ good!”
well, if you’re an asshole, you’ll say the first.
i understand the music might not be good. it might be absolute shit. but under no circumstances should you be this fucking rude to someone practicing their music unless they’re rude to you first.
through an article as rough and juvenile as this, you could very well discourage the future’s greatest artists.
you say you’re an elder, yes? act like one. further more, respect is earned, not demanded.

    • Thank you for saying this

  26. Undertale works well as a game because of the constant reminders and “what ifs” of what you are doing and whether you are a good person, because of how the final bosses are set up (story wise) and because the combat system is pretty unique and good for making enemies distinguishable, as well as other reasons (the soundtrack, the creative characters and the jokes to name three).
Minecraft works because there is massive (beyond easy exaggeration) potential for making creative and clever things, because Survival Mode is something unique (ish) and clever as well as very well balanced difficulty-wise, and because the game (Creative Mode/Cheats at least) can be taken in more directions than I could name. You want to make a minigame? sure. You want to aesthetically reproduce the S&M chamber from Fifty Shades of Grey? interesting, but by all means go ahead. Creating a massive populated city just to blow it up to kingdom come? count me in!
other great things about Minecraft include the modification potential (if you’re into that), how multiplayer mode doesn’t restrict anything and because the art of the game, while a bit boring at first, allows for some really nice looking builds.
if you don’t like the fanbase, it’s simple. DON’T GO TO THE FANBASE. Nobody is forcing you to visit /r/Undertale. Nobody is going to die because you decided not to visit the Minecraft Forum. Just play the goddamn games and you’ll be fine. It’s not like they’re a terrorist organisation either, they’re just people engaging in their hobbies and talking about it among themselves.
I’m not saying you’re not allowed to dislike them, but the whole “DAE cringy screaming 12 year olds” circlejerk widespread throughout the gaming world needs to pull their sticks out of their arses or at least stop judging people so easily. Games are not too young for you because the world doesn’t look exactly like what is going on outside of your window.
EDIT: with all of the posts here against transgender people, popular fashion choices and saying you have a sexuality other than straight, bi or gay, this is what triggers you people?

  27. This dude should shut up. He deserves to fucking die, cause his definition of music is actually the definition of a concerto with a libretto, which is a written accompaniment to music. Shut the fuck up you grumpy old crap.

  28. I am 13 years old and I absolutely can not stand today’s pop music, It is wicked bad. I can not stand how it all uses pentatonic scales and how it is all the same. It also has a lot of inappropriate content and It is all computer generated, using no real instruments, and even no real voice. That’s right, they are just lip syncing. Music from 1990+ is all terrible (I haven’t heard a single good modern song and when bands like Nirvana were introduced, they seemed to have one goal. That goal was to make pop music unbearable. So, just so you know, not everyone under the age of 25 listens to and likes the new music. If you mean my music is stupid, then you are talking about bands like The Beatles, Queen, The Four Seasons, Boston, Styx, Elvis Presley and more classic bands, singers, and songwriters’ music. I also can not stand the way that MOST (not all) teens and young adults are constantly on their stupid mobile devices and can not grow a brain that can think up why it is literally dumb to buy an apple product.

    • I think the older generation can be just as guilty of mindlessness; they were simply lucky to enjoy better music in their youth.

After college, I can count on one hand the number of people I met who were truly interested in great music. Typically, people find a single genre like rock and roll or jazz, and scarcely venture into other forms of musical expression.

  29. this is written by a twot..Tarja Turunen is one of the most talented individuas out there, but i’d bet he trashes her too..and she’s definitely a huge talent and baritone opera/metal singer at that(symphonic metal)..she could take on any male opera singer in a heartbeat,,,this article was written by an old fart (who like anyone’s parents) ,does not like their kids’ music, movies etc.)..you have to feel sorry for old narrow minded people like that..their music and movies, etc are always going to be the only crap they claim has any real merit..everything recent that sounds different to them will always be garbage..the same was said about Elvis and rock and roll in the 50’s and 60’s(by old farts)and the same was said about the doors, janis joplin and such in the 70’s(again by old farts) and the same fu*ks,with same narrow, old fashioned opinions are alive and well today.consider this old guy, just plain old fashioned and opinionated.period..disregard what he says..music is something different to many..if i only liked what this guy says is good then i wouldn’t be me..i’d be him..this old goat has no awareness of that apparently.

  30. your opinion is so stupid and fucking ignorant it hurts. have you even listened to the underground rock scene in the 2000S

  31. Your rant is so full of generalizations there is plenty to disagree with. I understand what you are saying, but you end up including what I would describe as good music.
Some instruments are fairly new and didn’t even exist when Beethoven (and others) was alive and writing music.
Technological advances and new inventions does not automatically discredit new instruments. Does an electric guitar, or an electronic organ disqualify as an accepted musical instrument?
Would you call the music of The Moody Blues, or Pink Floyd garbage because is uses synthesized, computerized electronic sounds?
Can there be no advancement in instruments created by a computer that would be acceptable to you?
You want to limit your criticisms to music less than 25 years old, but the computer driven instruments you criticize have been around twice that long.
Even the ugly words of Rap and Hip Hop are from human emotions.
You need to study the history of music and understand one style of music begets another. Where do you think rock and roll came from? Where do you think Rap, Hip Hop, and other forms of modern music came from?
Yes daddy, you sound exactly like my parents of the 1950’s who called early rock and roll garbage and thought the later metal bands like Led Zeppelin were evil.
If you can’t open your mind then shut your mouth and not expose your lack of musical intelligence.
My musical tastes are probably close to yours and I write a blog called “Words and Music.” My intention is to expose younger people to older music, but I don’t claim new music is garbage. And I do get a lot of remarks from teenagers who like the older music better than their contemporary music. It’s a matter of personal taste, but good music is good music no matter what era it comes from. Those (especially the young) who truly love music understand that and enjoy older music.
Modern music does fit into you 7 points, you just don’t understand that, or you have a closed mind.

  32. people like different music so accept that you motherfucking white trash

  33. this is one hell of a ignorant post. talking about stereotypes, this guy is a prime example of an generation that has forgotten they were once young theirselves. anyone who just screams that music requires no talent anymore, is just confirming they only checked out the mainstream charts. mainstream has always been shit, and thats something that will never change. if you start digging into more unknown stuff of certain genres, you will realise it isnt all bad. not all hiphop or dubstep sucks. dubstep originates from dub/reggea, yea sure skrillex turned that into some bullshit but if you knew any dubstep that dates back till before skrillex, you’d not have typed all this unbelievable crap.(’04/05)

  34. This is so fucking cringy, it even managed to give me cancer.

There is generalizing everywhere. Not all electronic music is dubstep or techno (or whatever it was in that deleted video) you idiot.

    1. Yes, electronic music is created by aliens with computers, not humans.

    2. So does electronic music. Just not the SUBGENRE (here, read it again: SUBGENRE SUBGENRE SUBGENRE SUBGENRE SUBGENRE SUBGENRE) you chose as an example.

    3. So can electronic music. Again, not the SUBGENRE you chose as an example.

    4. So does writing bullshit on the internet.

    5. Why? Who said that?

    6. Pretty sure electronic music is too. Just not as much.

    7. If you don’t count speakers or headphones (oh come on, I am not going to hire thousands of people to listen to music), then electronic music fits here too.

Also technically, my machine just created something you call “real music”. I just clicked play. Should I call you?

Who are you to define the word “music”?
I’ll tell you who you are. You are ignorant. Humans are not magic (as you are clearly implying), we are just machines, too.

Dude, listen to what you want, but please, stop forcing your “perfect” music to other people. You listen to what you want, we listen to what we want. Understood?

  35. I dont know if this is satire or not. Either way it’s pretty unresearched

  36. This whole webpage is just full of pointlessly very sad, very mad, and “lifeless” shells of people. Because yeah… Let’s say fuck you to development, let’s say fuck you to individualism. You mock modern music yet you act like self-righteous pieces of shit that work on the exact same level. IF IT AIN’T WHAT I LIKE AND IF IT AIN’T CLASSIC IT’S BS! You people should get a life and get laid by someone who isn’t just a hooker.

  37. I’m under the age of 25, yet I’m totally against modern music. I love playing songs from the 60’s. But when you say shit like “Listen, you stupid sons of bitches. I’m talking at you. I’m your elder. My opinion demands respect.”, You lose 90% of your readers right then and there. Your narcissistic attitude is a HUGE turn off. If you really cared about explaining why it’s garbage (which it is) then you wouldn’t go off on a big temper tantrum. So listen up, you stupid son of a bitch. Yes, I’m talking to you. I’m your future. Don’t go pissing off the people who you will end up relying on in the near future because you disagree with the music that they, not you, listen to. Leave it alone and chill.

  38. Because electronic music represents all modern music you pretentious blowhard douchebag.

  39. Wow this article is just a load of crap. I can cherry-pick songs from any era and say that the entire decade is crap, but with a sample size of one that doesn’t prove much. Saying the top 10/20/40 songs on the chart represents all music is incredibly stupid. Electronic effects in music have been around since the 70’s. Classical, metal, bluegrass, jazz, acoustic, and any other type of music you can imagine are being written and recorded every day. Do more than 10 minutes of research and you’ll discover that.

Also, as for music made by a computer, look up the artist Emily Howell.

    • You, my friend, have some common sense.

  40. I agree with everything stated in this article. I believe that modern music is terrible, and that there is no true talent involved in making it. And yet, this article is complete and utter, and I will quote you, “Mindless crap… Dagger-in-the-eyes, ass-bagging, blow your fucking brains out — unadulterated dog shit.” EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion, whether you like it or not. The fact that you believe your words and ideas are better than anyone else’s, once again quoting you, “is void of humanity”. So here is my personal opinion. Go to hell Nolan, and don’t think I’m falling for your tricks. My ad-blocker is working flawless. You aren’t making a cent off of my visit to this site.

  41. I’m 14 years old and my favourite bands are Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. So you say they suck? Lol

  42. Nolan, you just have a certain taste in music. Why get mad at millennials? We can like the stuff that you like too, but also grow and create our own tastes/genres. We don’t go around saying the music of your generation is trash. Although I will agree most mainstream songs these days are in fact trash (IMO), but there was, is and always will be music that others are not fond of. Am I right or am I right? I can’t get down with the mainstream EDM/Pop/Trap stuff they play nonstop these days, but that doesn’t mean my taste in music is fading out (or yours). We live in a world full of music and you can easily access most of it through this wonderful thing called the internet. If you actually give a damn, you can easily search for these new creations that you have a taste for. You know what else you can do? Ignore the music that you don’t have a taste for. I have done this, so I won’t bitch and moan about things I don’t like. It’s time to mature, Nolan.

    Peace.

    • Preach it!!!

  43. Can’t you accept that some people like different things? You don’t have to like it but you don’t need to insult what other people may like. I like all types of music. From Pink Floyd to Rae Sremmurd. So what if it’s created by “fucking machines” PEOPLE LIKE TO HEAR IT!!! So I please ask that you stop ranting about how you think that the music that you like is superior to the music that other people like.

  44. I’m not under 25, so I guess this article doesn’t apply to me? Or at least it doesn’t anymore. I’m somewhere in that deadzone where the article author decides one age group meets the next. I haven’t really liked the majority of the music I listened to. My friends get annoyed when I get annoyed listening to the lyrics of a song. But it isn’t just pop, rap, dubstep, or punk that bothers me. Anything that is low-quality stuff that tries to copy the greatness of a real musical talent is frustrating and painful for me to listen to. It isn’t just one or even a few genres, it’s all of them. Here’s another thing that I disagree with, machines are used to enhance the quality of the music produced by artists. The only time they are a bad thing is when they are used as a crutch. As in, this person could not produce a record without auto-tune. Another negative would be purely electronically produced music. It can *easily* be made with individual tweaks and modifications to give it that human touch, but most choose not to in order to save themselves effort. I agree with most of your rules for real music, but there are still exceptions to at least your first and last rule of real music. Take an author such as Lindsey Stirling, who often works with other authors to produce music videos with techniques like track blending, and yes, sometimes purely digital additions to her music. She has undeniable talent, invokes powerful emotions, has consistent and structural tunes without being too repetitive, and always has instruments with the occasional voice guest stars for collaborative works. However, she uses current generation electronic tools to add her own flair to the music she makes and in my opinion there is nothing wrong with that. P.S. I have no idea whether her music is enjoyed cross-generational, but I don’t believe that is a requirement either given how fist-shaken-at-lawn or face-buried-in-phone stubborn people can be. Maybe real music should be able to be enjoyed cross-culturally instead.

  45. Anyone who assumes that electronic music can’t be as beautiful and expressive as instruments should listen to the album kid A by Radiohead. I guarantee that will change your opinion. Also, anyone who thinks rap can’t be artful has obviously never heard Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. That album was even assigned by a college professor to be studied by his students. Don’t be so close-minded, people. There is still great music being made today. It just takes some digging through garbage to find.

  46. As an electronic (and multiple genre) music lover I agree with the premise of the article. Right on the money. However, the execution of this premise and the example used is totally off the mark.

  47. im under 25 and i totally agree with you. music these days isnt even music, its computer generated noise. i get so pissed of when people listen to this shit, you should go back to listening to the chillis and stuff. thats real music.

  48. Salt

  49. As Bob Dylan said, “get out of the new road if you can’t lend your hand, for the times they are a changing.” I’m 16 years old, I play the cello, acoustic guitar, and jazz bass, and I listen to Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Bach, Beethoven, etc. and I don’t care much for pop, or dubstep… but I strongly believe it deserves respect. You are an out of touch bitter old man who has been turned sour and been forgotten like old milk left out on the counter. You may not understand my generation, but that doesn’t mean our music is trash. You say that you deserve respect for you are my elder, but you are not entitled to my respect, or the respect of anyone in my generation. Your years have turned you into a bitter old man, not a wise, respectful elder.

PS: If music today is so trashy and takes no talent, try making it yourself. If you make one hit song, I’ll take back everything I said.

    • By the way, if you delete my comments, you are just proving to me what a fucking insecure bitter cunt you are.

      🙂

Respect is earned, and I owe you jack shit old man.

      • Nolan Replies:

Well, at least this goes to prove I’m not an insecure bitter cunt.

  50. Tarja Turunen can sing the hell out of that pavarotti shit..he’s old school crap..Tarja Turunen is 20 stars above that old fart.so he’s music?? i think not

  52. Chill.

  53. Agreed with almost everything. I dont agree with the title as this is giving the impression that people under 25 have no clue about good music. I’m 24 and I have never bought into todays bullshit, neither has most of my friends. 90’s, 70’s, all the way. Every decade has there gems but I feel we are missing something big since the early 2000’s. Repeated, mixed versions of old classics is the standards of today for almost everything in the media. Songs, movies, and especially ads. One hit and the rest will follow up to kill the theme of the whole thing. Get an imagination people.

  54. Being older than me doesnt mean that youre smarter than me, duh.
and also you arrogant ass piece of shit is deaf.

I hope you rot in hell.

    • Maybe not. But at least Nolan can form a coherent thought and write in complete sentences. And he probably could do that when he was your age.

  55. You KNOW…Half the problem with Rap music is the Bangers who Blast it at high volume at parties and out of Car Stereos. Tupac was The MAN…Mya Angelou set to a Beat (but I’ve never Heard Mya Angelou.) “Mind Playing Tricks by “the Geto Boyz” was EPIC…reminiscent of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” In Fact…youtube has some Condensed Macbeth Movies with that Jam as the Soundtrack (you know-the highlights-Duncan getting whacked, Banquo getting whacked, Lady Macbeth offing herself, the climactic swordfight with Macduff.) That SAID…Scarface said some Stupid Shit about My People-blaming US for the Decline of the Genre. And “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash was Da Bomb!…about the South Bronx and Reaganomics. Now…the Alternative and Grunge Scene took some Getting Used To (at least by Me.) I lived in NY while the Seattle Sound got Big-and, Ironically-the local stations didn’t play it then. The Black whatever, Blues whatever and Spin Doctors were as close as they Got. But, THEN from around 1994-96, they did a Total 180…you couldn’t FIND Classic AOR for about two years. Then-folks complained-and they changed the lineup.

  56. this is journalism now? kill urself old man

  58. (1) Real music is created by humans, not by a machine or a computer.

-Its irrelevant, you need a human to control a computer or a machine.

    (2) Real music has structure and consistency.

-Well, unless you are listening to ambient and more experimental music, all of the music in the world has structure and consistency. Repetition is very important in every style of music.

    (3) Real music elicits real emotions — of love, loss, anger, fear, happiness, hope, inspiration, or anything related to the gambit of being human.

    – Emotions are highly subjective

    (4) Real music requires talent.

    – Real music requires work

    (5) Real music requires instruments and/or voices.

-Music is sounds, instruments are just tools to create sounds.

    (6) Real music should be cross generational.

    -I give you that

    (7) Real music shouldn’t need gadgets or special effects to be enjoyed.

-Well, sorry if prefer to listen to my music in high quality.

You know why i don’t like classical music anymore? Because it is always the same instruments… how creative is that.

…You sound like an old guy that just use music as a way to feel superior.

    SO eat shit 🙂

  59. Go kill yourself, ya fucking old geezer.

  60. SOMEBODY: “As far as that goes, rap stretches the definition of “lyrics” as well. I’m not sure what it is, but lyrical it ain’t.”

Go listen to Big daddy Kane, Rakim, Big L, Big Pun and tell me they ain’t lyrical. To name just a few. That’s such a ridiculous statement. That’s like saying Bob Dylan “ain’t lyrical.” Or Hendrix ” ain’t a real guitarist.” It’s Just plain absurd.

I agree on the whole with the main point. Most of what the modern music industry pushes on the masses is tiresome bullshit and fucking garbage. But lets not lose sense of reality.

This is clearly an emotional subject. And that clouds a lot of peoples judgment. If they had any to begin with.

Anti-digital bias is not a logical argument.

    ‘Talent’ is a nebulous concept.

I personally, hate operatic music. I just don’t understand it. I don’t respond to it. I don’t feel it. I love beethoven , i love mozart and many classical orchestral pieces. But add voices in the mix and i can’t stand it. It’s one of my idiosyncrasies.

I dig rock, reggae, jazz, rap, punk, funk a whole lotta stuff. I judge the sound on a individual basis. I don’t condemn whole genres.

Don’t let the anger get control of your mind. It makes you look foolish. Nobody of any real intelligence is going to take you seriously when you can’t even disengage your emotions like the immature under 25-year olds you speak of.

  61. I’m not sure where you’re getting with this other than starting a huge shit storm. Does it really matter what music is classified as?
Who cares honestly. The ironic thing about this post though is how it’ll continue to get worse for you, music evolves so what do you expect really.
What you listen to will always be alive so i’m not sure what you’re complaining about just stay to your own music and let everybody else listen to theirs.
Most people your age talk about us not knowing when to keep our mouths shut but look at you.

  62. It’s garbage that someone thinks music should sound a certain way there are literally millions of people sampling the world’s sounds to create a specific genre set In their minds to express themselves

Sounds you got a lot a growing up to do intolerant biggot bitch I don’t care if you’re 50 you don’t get to tell the world how it revolves immature cunt people like you blog about the dumbest shit you’re the one person we need to put in the ground as soon as our resources on earth dwindle how about that you racist inbred incest fucking hater. Learn to love all or fucking go take za dirt nap.

  63. You people are ridiculous, pop music is a product they’re selling you. You wouldn’t get upset if your coke can wasn’t unique would you?

  64. I agree with you on something, but remember something….You cant beat my decibel, deci deci decibel, better, bigger, louder :DD

  65. Alright you old fart, let me set your wrinkly ass straight.

Music is an art form yes?
Art is a form of communication yes?
Communication is a way to stay connected, yes?

What does a person who never grew up with any opportunities in a dangerous neighborhood give a fuck about some guy in a suit singing for high society? More importantly, why should anyone expect them to? See you think it’s shit. It is and they know it. But it’s their shit. Society never got any better by anyone being a pretentious fuckhead and thinking that their way and only their way is the right way

    • NOLAN REPLIES:

I just got through “fucking myself.” Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion. Afterwards, in substitution for a cigarette, I went and listened to your creation. Fine work, Sir. Well done! Your generation’s music is still fucking garbage, but you Sir, have talent! Now, if you will excuse me, I’ll go fuck myself again.

      — Nolan

      • Sir, thank you and please understand my previous harsh tone was simply me defending those of us from my generation that truly have passion for music. I do agree that most music today, especially rap is garbage. It makes me push even harder. Again, I thank you for your acknowledgement.

  66. I hope you Millennials (and whatever they’re calling my generation now) realize what you’ve done. You’ve played right into his hand. He’s won! In my google search, I stumbled upon this and it was the second highest result. What he did was write inflammatory comments on a public forum where it would attract the attention of people like you. He builds site traffic, and becomes much more popular in the process. Personally, I think a majority of today’s music is trash (enjoyable trash). Compared to Luciano Pavarotti, the musical stylings of Ariana Grande (for instance) are pathetic. But I myself, still derive enjoyment out of the most wretched, tasteless, stupid, tactless songs like Stupid Hoe by Nicki Minaj. But why? Why do I find enjoyment from that? Have you ever caught yourself singing the jingle from a commercial? I bet most of you have! But that’s not music, right? But it’s catchy and sung by someone who has *some* talent. It may even be a little bit witty or satirical. And have you ever caught yourself enjoying a stupid joke that barely qualifies as comedy, or eating fast-food that barely qualifies as food, or reading a book that barely qualifies as literature, or scouring the internet for arguments on forums that barely even qualify as debates, or having discussions via text that barely even qualify as conversations, or anything else that qualifies as garbage that you derive pleasure from? Everyone has their own garbage that they enjoy and would gladly consume mass quantities of. So, calling it trash is redundant. We’re all racoons and opossums and stray cats digging through the trash cans of society to find something we like. The opossums may not like the same trash as the stray cats do, but at the end of the day both will end up consuming some sort of societal waste. That being said, not all of it is trash. Dismissing entire genres and those who listen to them because they don’t appeal to you is childish and closed-minded. I’ve read books that are considered classics, and thought they were awful. Catcher in the Rye was one of my least favorite books of all time. But I don’t go yelling at Catcher in the Rye fans saying that they’re idiots! I recognize that the book has some validity in the way it connected to generations past and its use of imagery and satire. But I might question a fan of the book on how they’re able to get past the annoying, privileged, angsty teen complaining about his life while he is single handedly throwing it away. But when I do so, I do so in a way that is about trying to see their point of view. So when you speak about other people’s music, do it with respect and try and see it from their perspective. You’ll be a lot less bitter and jaded because of it.

P.S. Electronic music isn’t created in a matter of seconds by a machine acting independently. It’s created by someone who understands music theory and applies that to their work as they create complicated melodies and well timed beats to create a work that to some may sound like garbage. But to others it does not sound like garbage but rather like contemporary and innovative art that incorporates new technology and new sounds to create music that the world has never heard.

    • NOLAN REPLIES:

If I were giving out awards, you’d receive a trophy. Well written. Appreciate the time you took to put into this.

  67. dude i am 17and i only listen to ac dc ozzy osbourne dream theater gnr black sabbath and lamb of god also alter bridge and slash

  68. You wouldn’t go to another country and start insulting its residents because you didn’t like the food there. No that’s disrespectful. So why is it that you are all insulting young people for having a different taste in music? I’ve always seen my elders as role models but when you act like children it’s a bit hard to show any respect. It’s all a matter of opinion so even though you might not like it, that doesn’t make the music bad; it only makes the music different from your normal pallet. When you hear a song that makes you think ‘young people’ just try to enjoy it. Go into the song with an open mind and you may find out that it’s not really that bad. Rap, like all music, is splitting off into sub-genres, some (OPINION) more enjoyable than others. A good example of this would be the difference in style between https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NJlUribp3c , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0-8dwIjP9I , and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHpyF4ZPHKw&list=RDpR75kTrlvC4&index=3 . I’m guessing that most of you liked the last one much more than the other two. George Watsky is fusing rap and orchestral pieces in a very poetic manner. He actually wrote a book and in it stating that “everyone has their yum” so just let them be. Final point, what classifies a computer as a non-instrument? Being able to play it in real time? You can do that if you desire but as technology advances it just gives artists more aid and helps teach them faster. A computer can imitate any instrument (very well at this point) therefore making any instrument the artist wants to ‘learn’ available for practically free. Most faces of hip-hop are talentless but attractiveness sells so it’s a good marketing plan. If you want to hear some actually bad music look up noise music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egt-Pzhs8rw however, music like this may become popular in the future. Just try to ignore it or actually research and find some salvageable music in this era are the only two pieces of advice I can think of.

  69. As a part of the youth generation today, of course I appreciate what the previous generation has to say about music. But calling us pricks and sons of bitches is just extremely disrespectful, especially coming from someone who is ASKING for respect.

We all have different opinions, and with music, I’m sure we all get lost in one time era or two or even more. My point is stop hating and disrespecting us as the younger generation and our decision if want to make loud and dumb music, because guess what? People like that.

You don’t have to, no one is telling you to. If you refuse to hear it then shut the radios down and put the records on instead. Surround yourself with the type of music you actually like. I appreciate when people try to be open minded by exposing themselves to different styles of music, so go ahead. But not liking something does not mean making a whole blog post basically cursing a whole generation because our music is trash?

I share some of the same opinions as you, and prefer listening to music with actual instruments in them. But I’m not going to disrespect my generation, or other generations just because I don’t like their music and then call them pricsk and sons of bitches without giving a care. Give respect to earn respect, thanks.

  70. Mr. Dola,

You are VERY smart. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Piece-of-shit youth

  71. this article is hillariously bad

  72. Here is something we need to think about. While it is true that the mainstream music industry is full of garbage right now, that certainly doesn’t speak for the entire spectrum of EDM artists. Have you tried looking elsewhere to find great music, such as, well….. the internet? We need to start looking outside of the box to find talented artists, and music with real soul. So lets start there.

Secondly, you constantly talk about how horrible EDM is, but it only makes you look like you are on your high horse. You have no reason to hate it beside the fact that it is new. Even if you don’t like it, you don’t have to be like your parents trying to tell you that you shouldn’t listen to rock music because it’s the devil’s music, or whatever. You don’t like it, that’s all well and good. But there are truly talented EDM artists out there. Here is a video response to this argument. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsWgeRgaY8M

  73. The voice processor known as a vocoder has been around since the 1930s. The biggest difference is that now it can be in a small pedal or software on a laptop rather than a giant desk sized computer that took up half a wall. This equipement is technically older than the Fender strat or Gibson les paul..

Thus artists are now able to reproduce their recordings on stage where as before it possibly would have taken a small team of engineers to pull it off.

When rock musicians started experimenting with thermins and synths in the 60s and 70s these electronics were thought of as mind blowingly inovative. Where as now using newer technology is viewed as cheating yet the only difference is that the tools or equipment are way smaller, cheaper and easily accessible.

George Martin and The Beatles helped create some of the first house music by making remixes of their own songs via tape loops and effects with equipment that may have been older than rock n roll but was yet to be used musically.

If the real reason that people shoot down the modern conceptions of “electronic” music is due to it being too accessible then electric guitarists must also be considered an annoying gimmick aswell. I mean due to being able to purchase one in walmart for under $100. Heaven forbid if it comes with a DIGITAL tuner. Heck, by the 90s if you could actually play it instead of relying on electric feedback and bang some power chords or use a cool effect (that turned your guitar into a synth or turntable) you would have been considered a poser.

Theres more annoying songs that contain guitars than ones with autotune still to this day because at least half the songs with autotune also have guitar too.

  74. “Old man yells at cloud”

  75. Excuse me? Did we the “hood rats” call your music “fucking garbage”? No. We didn’t. Who do you think you are demanding respect from someome as rude ad you. We may not agree with your taste of music, but that’s no readon to insult us and hate. You must be a bored loser with nothing to do but rant, or a freaking psychopath! Today’s music can’t recreate whatever the hell that classical song is, but seriously, have you ever seen a classical song on top billboard hits? You know, AFTER i was born? So go away and stop whining to us because respect goes both ways.

-Sincerely, a hood rat, and lover of fucking garbage

  76. If you think all rap is absolute garbage then you’ve obviously never heard of that wonderful musical called “Hamilton” By Lin-Manuel Miranda (you know, the sold-out broadway show), or a couple Eminem songs. just because it wasn’t created in your century doesn’t mean it’s bad. The more unknown artists, like XYLO, have some good music. Even “computer generated” music can be amazing. Dubstep does take talent. If it didn’t, even you could go up to a soundboard and tap out some sick beats. But you wouldn’t know where to start. Because you think it’s not real music and wouldn’t give it a chance. Things like Vocaloids (Japanese pop singers that are essentially holograms. see: Hatsune Miku) can be pretty amazing. everyone has different taste in music. And that’s great, that’s the best thing about humans. We’re so incredibly diverse that no matter what anyone produces, there’s bound to be a couple people who adore it, and a couple people who can’t stand it. Just remember, there are lots of songs that you can’t “get” from the first listen. Giving something a chance doesn’t mean listening to a few seconds and then deciding it’s trash, although if it’s by someone like Justin Bieber I would understand. I know, today’s music can’t compare to timeless classical pieces, but that’s because they’re not in the same genre. You don’t just say rap is bad because classical is better, because they have nothing to do with each other. All genres have good and bad music, you just have to go digging to find the cream of the crop. Give the twenty-first century a good, hard listen, and I’m sure you’ll find something good! 🙂

  77. Oh shut the fuck up! When is the last time anyone ever brought up Pavoratti. Not only is your bullshit opinion so Biased, We all know what you are referring to is “urban music”, racist. Nobody cares about your opinion. Why act like you are the all-knowing diety of Music? Pathetic!

  78. Get your head out of your ass. Some teens and young adults are out there listening to music as old as your dead grandmother! Hell, even from the early 30s! Get this man, MUSIC IS EVOLVING AND IT’S IN A NEW CENTURY NOT A CENTURY YOU WERE BORN IN. Bleh, people in war have better respect for others. You’re not some know-it-all only an old grumpy man sitting in front of a computer, um and you’re complaining about new music when you’re on something that was probably made in the 90s or 2000’s? Pathetic.

  79. How to prove your a raging moron. Write an opinionated article on a subject I quite obviously know nothing about. Clap Clap. Well done. For your next article why don’t you write about how everyone who has cancer deserves it because cancer is karma.

  80. If you’re still alive, your life doesn’t matter. Stop seeking attention like this lmao, it won’t make people like you. Stop bresthing if you can too. Kids probably have a better musical taste than and mostly way more talented than you. Whwt can you do, show everyone you can troll? Congratulations, buddy, that’s shit for edgy teenagers that don’t get enough attention by their parents. You probably were one of them. Kys.
Oh, sorry, I was just trolling and want attention like you did with this post.

Let the shitstorm once again begin.

    • Shit, I fucked it up. I’m dyslexic and didn’t realise it. Fix it for me pls daddy, kthx. Just wanted to start shit.

  81. so your seriously suggesting hit me with your rhythm stick is a legitimate good song. i think not

  82. Nolan, Music has taken a turn over the last several decades. I am a song writer and performer. I have a positive approach and open mind to all music. Unfortunately, some music leaves a bitter taste. But then again, most music has a good feeling somewhere. Expression is free in most countries and we live with every emotion. This world is not a better place without love and human kindness. Sing and play with a joyful spirit. Rub off on someone and make them happy.

  83. Music definition – vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.

    Keyword – instrumental “SOUNDS”

Music can come in many forms physically and metaphorically.

Music doesn’t have to be made from humans.

Theorists believe music was an attempt at social glue, a way to bring early humans together into a close-knit community. That doesn’t specify how music must be produced.

How music must be produced is purely personal opinion because there is no right way to produce music.

This is a very closed minded blog based on personal opinion and bias remarks.

  84. Wow, what a tired, unoriginal opinion from another old white bag. Also, fuck Pavarotti!

  85. You will die in a fucking hole for desecrating my kind

  86. The only machine making good music is Machine Head. Rock on!

  87. you sound like such a fuck

  88. I was born in 1982 so I grew up with good music and I’m proud of it especially that I remember that.

    • I hate to break it to you, but you missed most of the good stuff.

Look up the Million Song Dataset.

  89. Im a 17 year old female rapper from Boston. You can check out my music on soundcloud @Jvsmine STARZ. my single darkness in the sky is on there, this is a song i wrote about my father, growing up my father was never there for me the way he should have been, he abused me emotionally and physically, this song is the story of something that has affected my life in many ways. Hope you enjoy my “trash” music. 🙂

  90. Have you heard Unreal and Deus Ex soundtrack? It’s not even 20 year old.

  91. this article is cringely AF

  92. Relax or you will die soon im sorry for you feeling like that about new genres of music but your inteligence is just not enough to understand when you spreading hate you will be forgoten.
And you definetely dont deserve respect if you have opinion like that you are just another old critic hater 😀 im Realy sorry for you.

  93. I know a good website for you! reddit.com/r/iamverysmart

  94. Fuck you fat faggot come say that shift to my face you old wrinkly ads fuck kys.

  95. I would have told you to grow up but you’re a fucking grown ass old man.

Do you realize that you’re throwing a tantrum over the fucking internet about today’s music when you won’t even be living that long to see it progress?

Just another bitter geezer from the previous generation who doesn’t like change and reminisces about the “olden days”

    • PROGRESS..?!? PROGRESS TO WHAT??? BACK TO THE OLDIES STYLES..?!? OR MORE OF THE SAME NEW RAP STUFF..?!? DIG IT BABY DIG IT!!!!

  96. 1.Hasty generalization: You assume everyone under the age of 25 listens to the same generic “pop” music that you hope they listen to so you can round them all into one group and attack them. There are around 3046497879 people under the age of 25 and claiming that most of these people listen to the same (arguably or objectively) bad type of music is simply stupid

    2. Ad Hominem: You obviously wish to anger and insult your audience. You use words such as “you little pricks” and start off with calling their tastes in music “fucking trash” by attacking the audience instead of their argument(that their music is good), not only do you lose all credibility, but you end up alienating those arguing against you, destroying all grounds for debate.

  97. Really? Nessun dorma by the airbag is the best you can do?

  98. Music is shit right now. Real music is becoming boring to those pea brained teens. They can’t tell what’s noise from the so called “popular” music. It’s homogeneous, almost everyone listen to that crap. Thank goodness there’s still a haven for people like me. Without it, The world would be anguished by the terrible crap those fucking producers make….
