Why Are they Praying?
Note: Written on the evening of the Iowa Republican Caucus, which officially begins the 2024 presidential election.
I can’t believe what I’m seeing. The 2024 Republican Caucuses in Iowa all start with —- a prayer? Seriously
What century is this? What country is this?
Watching live coverage from Iowa right now, the meetings are starting off with someone in each county leading an orchestrated religious ritual. With a mic. Everyone, regardless of spiritual belief, or lack thereof, being subject to conformity. Imagine being coerced into such a mass liturgy of intimidation.
WTF?
I thought *official* political events were supposed to be non-denominational and sectarian. What happened to “separation of church and state?” So, all those who attend these political events are now forced to partake in a overt display of devotion to ancient fairy tales and worship of an invisible sky daddy?
I’m astonished this mass madness is still a thing. It should never be orchestrated, nor official. If Christian fanatics and evangelical spidermen want to pray and pledge servitude to their gods *outside* the building and beg for “divine” wisdom from some twisted scripture of revenge, genocide, violence, and hypocrisy, then by all means please go ahead and do it. But pray to your Jesus guy OUTSIDE the caucus. This DOES NOT BELONG in a political event. Not unless you want to give all other belief systems EQUAL TIME.
This absurdity has no business in any official political or election procedure. Period.
