The 14-Year Fountainebleau Fiasco: Either Finish It, or Implode It
MY TAKE ON THE FOUNTAINEBLEAU CASINO FIASCO
So, yet another “management group” just bought and now owns the eyesore known as The Fontainebleau.
It’s time to start the clock. Fourteen years of a rusted-out hull standing like an eyesore in the middle of the famed Las Vegas Strip is long enough. No other city in America would allow this to happen. A wrecking ball should have been called in years ago. It’s time to put on the squeeze.
Do the following: Give them 18 months to finish the project, and if it’s not done by then, declare it a health and safety hazard.
Then, SEIZE the property on numerous zoning code violations that have gone uncorrected for more than a decade. Then, implode the structure, sell off the scrap metal, and auction it off to the highest bidder.
Enough “investor” shell games, already. Finish it or demolish it.
Note: I’m astounded the neighborhood businesses who have lost vast sums due to snarled traffic, construction inconveniences, and other problems aren’t suing them up the ass to get something done. The City of Las Vegas should have taken it over 10 years ago. Moreover, all massive construction sites should require some forfeiture of deposit if work isn’t completed within prescribed time periods.
