Remember When Republicans Were Respectable?

Remember when the Republican Party used to be respectable and rational? Remember when the GOP used to nominate presidential candidates who members of both parties could admire and look up to, who were both intelligent and statesmanlike, leaders who inspired the best in all of us, rather than dividing the country and extracting the very worst fears in their supporters?

So, what happened?
How did the Grand Old Party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and the three Republican icons shown above reduce itself to the likes of this presidential candidate:

And this Vice-Presidential nominee:

And now finally, this orange buffoon:

Nolan, please……it’s not just the Repubs. If I had one I’d throw a pic of JFK or LBJ up there and then a pic of BHO. WTF happened here? How do we go from JFK to the clown in the Oval Office? Change might actually be coming this time but I’m not betting on it.
Nolan Replies: Okay, I get it. You despise President Obama. Fine. But at least he believes in evolution, doesn’t pander to religious extremists, wants to protect womens’ rights, doesn’t deny the science of climate change, and so forth like today’s leading Republicans. Take issue with the President and his policies all you want, but after six years of slow but steady economic recovery, promoting rights for all, opening up Cuba, etc. I’ll gladly put up his record and policy stances against Cruz, or Palin, or Huckabee, or Trump, or what masquerades as typical conservatism.

You’re right I’m not big fan. But he’s not running. So throw him out and let’s take a look at the Dems offerings. Hillary? Please. Sanders? Double please! Personaly I vote candidate not party but what I see on the Red side beats the Blue side. I have a feeling you’re going to have a lot to blog about in the next year!
Nolan Replies: I certainly agree with your last thought.
