Online Poker Creates Jobs

One added benefit to online poker’s legalization and regulation in the United States which is often overlooked is the new jobs created here in America.

When they launch and as they grow, online poker (and gambling) companies hire all kinds of new employees to serve their customers and expand markets.  This includes technical support, customer service, and other well-paying occupations.

There’s even a secondary job tier created, particularly in news/reporting, advertising, and marketing.  Take, for instance, many people (including myself) who have worked over the years in poker and gambling journalism.

Last week, my good friend Marco Valerio went to Sacramento, CA last to show his support for a new bill that would legalize online poker in the nation’s most populous state.  I was pleased to see Valerio afforded the chance to testify before a committee within the California State Assembly.  As you can see, he does a nice job adding some new perspectives to the debate.  The Chairman of the committee even seemed surprised by the testimony.

This short video runs for less than two minutes.  But it’s well worth watching.  My congratulations to Valerio for his work on behalf of online poker and for taking the time to lend his voice in support.  I wish people in the poker community, particularly younger people, were as engaged in the good fight.

Well done, Marco!
