Meet Marc Convey

 

 

When I worked in casinos and covered poker, one of the people I was lucky to work alongside over many nights and many years was Marc Convey, from the U.K.

Not only was Marc tremendously dedicated to his craft, as well as immensely talented as a writer, he also had that special undefinable quality where people simply wanted to be around him. Marc was the guy who always made the perfect wisecrack at the right time and lifted us all up with some inspirational comment without even meaning to do so at 4 am while we were exhausted from 16-hour-days covering the World Series of Poker. Perpetually optimistic, unapologetically positive, wickedly funny, a man of not just words, but meaningful actions — Marc is one of the people I miss most.

Today, I was pleased to learn that Marc has begun a new venture in life. “Motivational speaker” isn’t the direction I expected him to go. But hey, that’s Marc. Always stepping beyond the boundaries of expectation and doing what few would be brave enough to attempt.

I’m probably the least likely person to need added motivation, but I’m also convinced we can and should learn from others. When such an opportunity is presented, it’s usually worth looking into. Accordingly, I’m looking forward to hearing Marc’s talk and gain from his personal story and perspectives in life. For those who do not know him, Marc overcame one of the most difficult physical and emotional challenges imaginable, yet I don’t ever recall once him ever seeking attention or sympathy. To the contrary. I think there are lessons here for us all.

Allow me to take this opportunity and use my small platform on social media among my friends and others who may be in a position to hire a motivator to endorse Marc Convey’s new venture and wish him the success he’s worked so hard to attain. He deserves it.
