Remarkable Photos of Marieta Dalla — Then and Now

Marieta and I have been married for 23 incredible years.  Here are some photos I’d like to share.

About a year before Marieta and I met, this photo was taken (see above).  At the time, she was 27-years-old.  This photo was shot while she was standing on her apartment balcony outside in central Bucharest, Romania looking out onto the street down below.  It was taken the last year Communist ruler Nicolae Ceausescu was in power.

I started dating Marieta about eight months after this photo was taken.  We were married in 1991.  This is my all-time favorite photograph of her.  Something about it still gets me misty-eyed.

Marieta loves wearing hats.  It’s one of her trademarks.  From this old photo, you can see her wearing one of those pillbox-style hats that used to be fashionable during the early 1960s.  But the reality is, anything Marieta chooses to wear instantly becomes fashionable.  Don’t you agree?

A few nights ago Marieta and I went out to dinner on New Year’s Eve.  She surprised me by wearing the exact same hat she had on 25 years ago in my favorite photograph.  Imagine that wonderful surprise.  So, I shot the photo (see below) as we headed off to the restaurant.

Pretty amazing, isn’t it?  Here’s Marieta Dalla back in 1989 (above) versus 2013 (below) wearing the same hat.

Of course, it’s not that hat which is special.  What’s special is the person beneath it.

  1. Beautiful–the woman, the romance, and the writing.

  2. WHAT BRAD SAID – BUT IN CAPS!

  3. It is clear you married up. I know the feeling.

  4. It is a miraculous thing when 2 people who are meant for each other actually find each other at the right time. To slightly alter what Jean Luc Picard always said. “You made it so.” My love to you both.
