Lunch with Pete Rose (sorta’ kinda’ — well, not really)

A funny thing happened at Pasta Mia today.

I was with Rich Korbin making another short video of my favorite lunch spots, and that’s when Pete Rose walked in.

Rich went over and talked to Rose.  They conversed for about 10 minutes.  Afterward, I asked Rich what they talked about, and of course, baseball was the topic of conversation.  Rich, who grew up going to Yankees, Mets, and Giants games in the late 50s and early 60s probably knows as much about Major League Baseball as Rose does, so I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall to that conversation.

I’m no fan of Rose, and I don’t think he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.  That said, he was really nice to Rich and I saw them laughing several times.  Sports bettors always know the best places to eat.

Here’s the short video review of Pasta Mia just before Rose entered and took a seat.

The Lesson:  You never know who you may run into in Las Vegas.

  1. I’m no fan of Pete Rose as a person, but he was one of the greatest players of all-time, he was hugely famous, and as such, he belongs in the hall of fame. So he bet on himself and the Reds to win — so what? No one has even alleged that he ever bet against the Reds.

Tell me that you, Nolan, inveterate gambler that you are, wouldn’t have done exactly the same — and I’ll call bullshit. 8;)

      Thanks for the comment.

The answer is — nope. He BROKE the rules. He also AGREED to the deal that he would be banned from baseball, including the Hall of Fame, in exchange for MLB dropping further investigation and prosecution. ROSE TOOK THE DEAL. Now, he must live with it. Actions have consequences, my friend.

  2. Pete didn’t like me too much. He was one of many that urged me to become a lawyer in my youth, and I never did. I am a bit sad he passed on.
