Fraternal Order of Police Telemarketing Calls = SCAMS

TELEMARKETER$ RATFUCKING

FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE / FIREFIGHTERS / VETERANS = SCAMS / SCAMS / SCAMS

Alert! When your phone rings and you pick it up and hear a voice on the other end say, “I’m calling on behalf of the (insert your city/state) Fraternal Order of Police/Firefighters/Veterans….”

HANG UP !!!

YOU ARE THE TARGET OF A MONEY FUCK.

My friends, you are being scammed. You are getting pick pocketed, by a velvet-voiced snake.  You are being defrauded, usually in your own home, over the phone. They cold-called you, remember? So, it’s an invasion.. More like an ASSAULT.

Chances are, you’ve received these calls. Perhaps many times. I’ve gotten dozens of these solicitation calls over the years, and I admit, they do sound legitimate. But, they are LYING. Always. All the time. Police Departments do NOT call people at home asking for money. Are you listening? Can you hear me now?

Watch Telemarketer$, the new HBO mini-series, which debuted last week. It’s a riveting rough-cut behind-the-scenes documentary on the scam of charity fundraising by phone. It’s brutal to watch. I almost shut it off, I was so disgusted. After spending and hour watching these guys at work, I felt like I needed a shower.

That voice asking you for money sounds like a nice guy, doesn’t it? It’s a story they’ve perfected. It’s often a male, with a deep-sounding voice. He sounds like he might be with the police, or a firefighter, or a veteran. But odds are, he’s a scumbag loser. Likely a convict. A drug addict. Laughing at you, after he hangs up and shakes the victim down for $20 or $30, which all adds up to a typical call cubicle producing $1,000 a shift.  Think I’m exaggerating? Again, watch the undercover video footage from the LARGEST charity fundraising company in the United States, with several branch call centers. You will be shocked, and then appalled, and then angry.

Due to pro-business legislation and little government oversight, and especially the weakened consumer protection laws pushed by conservatives, these thieves use the weak regulatory framework to their full advantage and exploit every loophole (Read MORE:  Republicans want to let robocallers spam your voicemail). Some of these companies have been charged and fined by actual law enforcement, but then they just pay the (small) fines and reboot someplace else and the calls begin all over again. The calls come to me. They go to you. They often come in cycles.

In the documentary, when one of the telemarketers gets asked when he’ll stop calling vulnerable people (many working-class and poor and on fixed incomes) who trust and give their money willingly to strangers over the phone, his reply was: “When will I stop calling? ….when they’re either dead, or they’re broke.”

DON’T BE FOOLED.

Also note that the typical victim is usually an older person, supportive of police, firefighters, and veterans. Even if you think you’re immune to this type of fraud, most likely you have relatives or know somebody who HAS BEEN scammed. I suggest sharing this warning with them. Better yet, watch the show Telemarketer$ and learn how about the scams and the scum who pull them.

A Final Word:  If you still don’t believe these fraternal order of police, etc are scammers, then click here to see official statements by REAL police departments from all over the country issuing warnings.
