Every Picture Tells a Story: Marieta in 1990

MARIETA IN BUCHAREST
Recently, I posted my thoughts about bringing old photographs to life again, by sharing them and telling a story. My sincere belief is that unless we share our most interesting experiences and thoughts, they will be forgotten and eventually die, I urge many of you reading this to take an old photo, and on occasion allow others to enjoy a memory.
This photo was taken on one of our first dates, in early 1990. It’s inside Marieta’s central Bucharest apartment. Aside from her stunning beauty, what I noticed looking back at this today was Marieta’s obvious love for books and devotion to reading. That’s one of the other qualities that attracted me to her. Anyone surrounded by books should never be bored, nor idle.
Another memory here is that color film was almost IMPOSSIBLE to find inside Romania (during the Ceausescu era). Unless it was brought in from Western Europe, most camera film was black & white. Many of the old photos from Bucharest and Romania I took — both pre- and post-revolution — were black & white. Strangely enough, I think that gives the image a more artsy and nostalgic look. This photo could have been of Sophia Loren in the 1950s.
Remember those olden days before our phones were cameras? It cost money and took time to load film and develop the pictures, and you never knew if the photos you carefully posed would turn out.
Call me biased — but I think this one turned out pretty good.

Enchanting….
Marieta’s eyes are memorable, then and now.
Thanks for sharing.
