Downfall: The Case Against Boeing (Review)

Next time you hear the old canard about “cutting government regulations” and letting businesses oversee themselves, remember the Boeing story.

NETFLIX: “DOWNFALL: THE CASE AGAINST BOEING” REVIEW

I watched this 90-minute documentary tonight. It was just released on Netflix.

Produced by the team of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer who have given us so many terrific movies and documentaries, this expose lives up to expectation. What a great job of journalism exposing the willful neglect, utter carelessness, and rapacious greed at Boeing that ultimately resulted in hundreds of deaths and very nearly destroyed the American aviation industry as a manufacturer of commercial aircraft.

To be fair, Boeing was once a great company. Truly exceptional. It was the epitome of innovation and excellence in engineering. Boeing was the gold standard of airliners. Plus lots of other stuff.

Then, the giant corporate merger came. The suits in the boardrooms began the squeeze. So, executives started cutting corners. Slashing the number of employees. They balked on training. They lobbied against government regulation. Workers who raised safety concerns were demoted. The stockholders made barrels of money and the CEO made out like a bandit. Cutting corners worked. Then, came the crash of a Boeing aircraft. Then, another. Oops! Two brand new Boeing jets. In pieces. Hundreds of people were killed, with no survivors. Then, the cover-up began. You know, the corporate culture at work. Happy Wall Street. Gotta’ protect the stock price!

Scumbags.

Even when they knew the problem was theirs, they tried to hide the truth. Boeing execs blamed others. Even with blood on the ground, they tried to ruin lives. Blame the pilots.

Watch this. Listen. Learn. Next time you hear the old canard about “cutting government regulations” and letting businesses oversee themselves, remember the Boeing story. This isn’t about profits. It’s about life and death.

Oh, and wait ’til you see what the CEO made when he was “fired” from Boeing.

NOTE: If those planes wouldn’t have been pulled from the sky and grounded after resistance from Boeing when they tried to blame the pilots, many more passengers would have died (FAA study reached this conclusion). This travesty could have been MUCH WORSE. Anyone who suggests “markets regulate themselves” has no clue as to reality.

  3. nolan my comment on loser. could not get it to go on commment page. by the way did you read my book?
It is the way of life, nobody controls the out come of (gambling) events that are influcenced by chance or the wims of the natural world, like your success or failure in ventures, business, your health and how you die.

However there are a number of real life things involved in this statement which the wisom learnt through time (age) teaches and the mystic knows. This is something I could never get Stu to undersatnd because he was to impatient to listen to me, I was very close to Stu, we loved each other, but his quater second mind was to fast all the time to slow down and listen to my 10 second thoughts. Heres the truth on how life really dictates its out come on you.
Joesph Conrad (1857-1926)the great maritme writer and a master mariner in the days of clipper ships said once “that ~90% of what you plan to do in your life, marrage, bussiness, reaching the top of the moutain, etc, fails or never comes out the way you had planed! There are many events that come up on your way to your goal, through no fault of your own or quirks of nature that cannot be for seen, which thwarts your reaching your goal.
Stop for a moment and apply this insight of truth to your own life…it will give you, for an instant, a charge that fits into what willaim blake said..”if the mind of man were cleansed he would see the universe as it really is..infinite”!
The real winner in life, besides when he wins at something, is when he loses or fails at what he has tried to do and it doesn’t affect him in the least…it just resolves him to move in a different direction or attemp again from another angle having learnt the first way didn’t work. Maracino comes to mind when he said when a man hits you with his best shot and you just stand there and look at him like nothing happened.. you have won the fight.
But the best example to show how to be a winner when what you have done fails comes from the fishermen i grew up with on the coast of Newfoundland. My friend the great man and fisherman frank Forward use to spend a week in the spring getti9ng his nets and boat ready for setting the gear when the season opened. After searching all day for the best spot to put the nets It took another 15 hours of hard work in rough seas for three men to set
the traps in the water after searching for the best spot. Then we had to ride out a storm all night at sea so we could haul the nets in the morning. 5 hours of hauling back…AND WE GOT NOTHING. Skipper frank just smiled!! In a soft voice and a twinlkle in his eye..he said haul it all aboard..we did. He then sailed down the shore 20 miles and set it all again ..another 6 hours. When we hauled the next moring we loaded her with 40 thousands lbs of fish.
Frank was like this all his life what the sea and life through at him it was the same to him as if he was sitting by a water fall on a sunny day. . Many might consider having empty nets on the north atlantic Ocean, the roughest in the world after 2 dyas of back breaking work as failure or being a looser…but if you handle life like my friend the fisherman, you can never be a looser, because your attitude makes you winner at every thing you do in life…weither it be full or empty nets or winning or loosing your cash in a poker game. doc earle
