Churches to Women: Make Me a Sandwich!

SOUTHERN BAPTISTS TO WOMEN:
MAKE ME A SANDWICH!

Southern Baptist Convention Considers Ban on Women Pastors

Attention Ladies! Listen up, little lasses!

It’s 2024, and Southern Baptists believe you’re unequal to men. Second-class. The largest Protestant religious denomination in America insists that you don’t belong in positions of authority. Not in the church, anyway.

I’m sensing a pattern here. They’ve already seized control of your body, subverted your decision-making, violated your privacy, and shackled your reproductive rights, and even threatened you with prosecution and prison—by pushing the far-Right’s backwards agenda on birth control and abortion rights. Remember ladies, God’s plan is for you to stay barefoot and pregnant. Now, get back in the kitchen and make your man a sandwich.

“The convention is scheduled to vote Wednesday morning on a proposed measure to enshrine a ban on women pastors and a resolution condemning the use of in vitro fertilization. The outcome of votes on both items will be a turning point for the nation’s largest Protestant denomination.”

Admittedly, I’m no authority on the worship of any fictional “sky daddy,” nor the myriad of archaic beliefs wrapped up in ancient fairy tales masquerading as organized religion in America. But all recent polls and surveys on American opinion and life clearly show that church attendance and religious influence in American life is continuing to DECLINE—which is good thing. Less religion = more freedom, enlightenment, and human progress.

That said, what I really fail to understand is why a medieval cult would prohibit HALF of its loyal members from serving as pastors. The Southern Baptist Convention is seriously considering doing exactly that. Call me misinformed, but it seems to me that ANYONE who is capable of teaching, serving, and crusading for a set of religious beliefs should not only be entitled, but ENCOURAGED to evangelize for the faith of the flock–even if the flock is peddling folk tales, fantasy, and fiction. Serious question–are they trying to kill off interest in religion and dissuade attendance? If so, well done Southern Baptists!

Of course, religious organizations can do whatever they want. Play dress up and pretend you’re an apostle. Vote for a deranged felon-traitor-adulterer-serial liar. Worship snakes. Whatever.

I just find it hysterical as it is illogically mind-boggling that any belief system would want to BAN half of the population from serving in roles of authority, for no other reason than one’s gender. Women, your male-masters have spoken.

Apparently, the only kind sandwich served in church is bologna.

UPDATE:

Update: Vote result…..

SBC voted 61 percent in favor of the amendment to ban women pastors on Wednesday morning. EVEN WITH THE SIZABLE MAJORITY OF MEMBERS IN FAVOR, the required two-thirds VOTE for constitutional amendments failed to pass.
