An Open Letter to Every Evangelical Christian Voting for Trump

AN OPEN LETTER TO EVERY EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN WHO IS VOTING FOR TRUMP

Dear Evangelical Christians:

We need to have a serious talk.

Trump is a sick man. But in all honestly, he can’t help himself. Trump has proven to be utterly incapable of empathy or compassion. He cannot distinguish between right versus wrong. He doesn’t care what is true versus what is false.

All that matters to Trump —– is *Trump.* If it benefits him, then he’s for it. If it does nothing to enrich, empower, or flatter him, then he’s against it (or indifferent to it). He’s always been a feral rodent on the prowl for self-aggrandizement. All his actions, money, and power feeds that insatiable addiction.

Honesty, loyalty, morality — those are totally alien concepts to a man who has proven himself to be grotesquely dishonest, disloyal, and immoral. We’ve all seen the evidence, for many decades. It’s overwhelming. His record is irrefutable. And he’s getting worse lately (which is hard to fathom).

However, according to my understanding of what you evangelical Christians *profess* to stand for, those wonderful guiding principles — honesty, loyalty, morality — are indeed the granite foundations of your belief system. We may not agree on spiritual interpretations, or science, or public policy, or many other things. But I’m convinced there’s agreement between us that these fundamental virtues are absolutely essential to one’s character, especially in a LEADER.

Yet —– all polls and surveys show evangelical Christians support Trump (and vote Republican) by overwhelming margins. You’re only 15 percent of the total American adult population, but comprise 25 percent of all votes cast. About 80 percent have voted for Trump in the past two presidential elections. This isn’t just Trump’s base. Evangelical Christians are his quarry and his political bedrock.

There’s little, if anything, that I can write, or say, or do that will change any of this. It’s too late, now. You are who you are. And, I have come to accept that reality. Oddly enough, it’s Trump himself who deserves much of the credit for shining the flashlight onto your souls. Yes, he’s revealed who you really are. Yes, deep down, he represents what you truly believe in; Otherwise 4 out of 5 of you would not be voting for him.

Accordingly, that makes my DECLARATION and what follows in the words and thoughts I’m about to share below quite clear and easy:

— Evangelical Christians, you will NEVER lecture me again about the virtues of KINDNESS AND COMPASSION…..not when you support a man who is so excessively unkind and cruel.

— Evangelical Christians, you will NEVER preach to me again about the importance of TELLING THE TRUTH…..not when you support a man who lies incessantly, on every subject and issue.

— Evangelical Christians, you will NEVER sermonize to me ever again about how essential it is that we TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS…..not when you support a man who never apologizes for anything, nor admits when he was wrong, or nor shows even a smidgeon of humility.

— Evangelical Christians, you will NEVER demand from me or anyone else ever again that we PAY OUR DEBTS…..not when you support a swindler who has multiple bankruptcies, dozens of lawsuits, multiple felony convictions, and won’t even pay back small businesses and contractors, hundreds and thousands of which he’s stiffed over many decades while he brags about being “worth billions.”

— Evangelical Christians, you will NEVER try and tutor me about LOYALTY…..not when you support a man who has proven to be disloyal to each of his wives, his business associates, and most of his own former associates and political appointees, who he constantly attacks and insults.

Evangelical Christians, by your actions and your votes…..you have LOST ALL CREDIBILITY.

You’ve not just lost my respect, you’ve obliterated it.

You’ve shown us who you truly are.

And now, I’m done with you.
