When Cruelty Becomes the New Normal

 

 

I can’t believe I’m having to write this. Not in the year 2025. Not in this country. This is not normal. I mean, it shouldn’t be normal. Ever. Especially not in this day and age. But it is.

Cruelty has become normal.

I don’t care about those many millions who are ignorant, not do I care about their racism. I really don’t. Hate can easily be dismissed — though never ignored. Pretending ignorance and racism doesn’t exist is dangerous. History proves that, as America has always overflowed with mass ignorance and overt racism — often masked as patriotism — whether the 1700s, 1800s, 1900s, or sadly even now in the 2000s. We can argue about progress that’s been made and how far we’ve come collectively speaking, or the lack thereof. We can also debate the ways to improve education and diminish racism. We can even discuss the many reasons for ignorance and racism.

What I do know is — it’s impossible to defeat when it comes from THE TOP.

If and when they’re ever released, the TRUMPStEIN FILES don’t really matter as much anymore.

Whatever slimy details are burrowed therein, the remaining “evidence” isn’t trustworthy. Not anymore. Can anyone really trust the hand-picked sycophantic inner-circle of blind loyalists inside Trump’s DOJ to allow any dirt on their boss to surface? Does anyone really expect to discover a hidden treasure drove of legitimate materials related to sex crimes by Jeffrey Epstein and all those who willfully participated and enabled a decade of abuses?

The Trumpstein Files are now in the process of being scrubbed so clean it’s gonna’ read like Dr. Seuss wrote it. According to the bill that was just signed mandating the release, the Orange House now has 30-days to redact, block, strike out, delay, alter, and/or obliterate ANY evidence that might possibly link Trump to any wrongdoing. THIRTY DAYS!

Fortunately, most Americans will know when they’ve ordered steak of the menu and then get served a heaping pile of bullshit. What in the hell is this? This isn’t what we ordered.

Review: “A House of Dynamite” (Netflix)

 

 

REVIEW: “A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE” [NETFLIX]

A House of Dynamite is the hottest new show on Netflix. It’s so impactful that some top government officials are now commenting on it. They’re denying its realism mostly — which probably means it’s frighteningly close to being accurate. Yes, it could happen. The movie — and particularly the ending — has triggered a broad spectrum of reactions from political insiders and the general public alike. This isn’t surprising given the deep divide within our nation and the chronic depth of disinformation poisoning healthy discussion and made constructive debate difficult if not impossible.

Directed by the Oscar winner of The Hurt Locker (along with Zero Dark Thirty) the film and story are signature Kathryn Bigelow at her very best, reflecting her own unique brand of style and storytelling. Fast-pacing, jittery camera shots, imperfect angles across paper-stacked desks, awkward pauses and occasional interruptions, and devotion to the tiniest details are Bigelow’s cinematic trademark. Reminiscent of the best film adaptations of Tom Clancy’s novels a generation ago, she’s carrying that legacy and level of authenticity. Bigelow clearly hasn’t lost a step returning to the all-too familiar subject matter of another intense political and military conflict, though this crisis is not played out on battlefields, but rather beneath florescent office lights burrowed in bureaucratic concrete mazes and newsroom-looking situation rooms operating 24/7/365 under the government’s alphabet soup of letter abbreviations.

These Disunited States: A Serious Question About Secession

 

 

THESE DISUNITED STATES:
A QUESTION ABOUT SECESSION

How many of you would vote for a national divorce? Another word for this is — a secession, which then becomes a partition. That would mean a state or group of states leaving the USA and forming a new sovereign nation. Of course, several states did try this once back during the 1860s and things didn’t turn out so well. But, let’s assume a modern hypothetical secession could be peaceful—-would you support it?

Answering this question requires creative imagination. Given the sprawling U.S. map and how states could presumably divide, many isthmuses would be necessary to connect states scattered everywhere. Moreover, big cities in some states would protest. And, rural people in other states would protest, too. No one wants to be a minority inside their own “country.” So, even if it could happen, there are problems with dividing along red-blue boundaries.

When you think more about it, secession sounds next to impossible in practical terms. But for the sake of discussion, let’s shelve those concerns for now and just talk hypothetically —

WOULD YOU AGREE TO A PEACEFUL SECESSION IF GIVEN A CHANCE TO VOTE ON IT?
