Story Revealed of Tony “the Ant” Spilatro Threatening to Kill Doyle Brunson

“If you don’t like it, I’ll stick twelve ice picks in that big fat gut of yours,” Spilotro allegedly told Brunson.

I was recently interviewed by Joe Levin for a feature cover story about gambling legend Doyle Brunson. It was an honor to be involved and introduce such an excellent writer to several gamblers who know Brunson and could add perspectives that perhaps hadn’t been shared before.

Joe sent me an email this week telling me the article was just published online and as well as the print version of the popular magazine, Texas Monthly.  What a great read. It’s a fabulous in-depth story on Brunson’s amazing life, both at the tables and most revealing, also in private.  As someone who has known and covered Brunson for many years, this is one of the best exposes I’ve seen.

One item that jumped out of me when I read the article was the little-known story of Doyle’s interaction with nefarious mobster Tony ‘the Ant” Spilatro, who was immortalized by Joe Pesci in the 1995 movie Casino.

Brunson’s life was threatened by the maniacal mobster who allegedly murdered 20 people.  This incident happened after Brunson balked at a proposed heavy-handed “partnership” between the well-known Las Vegans – the two men famous/infamous for very different reasons.

In today’s New York Post, more about that incredible story was revealed, quoting from Levin’s Texas Monthly article.
