January 6, 2021 may seem like a long time ago, but it is very much with us today–only the danger is now far worse. It was America back then, is it now…this time the world?
It’s the big lie that never ends.
It’s the bloated arrogance that knows no bounds.
It’s the greed and grift — sanctioned in institutionalized stealing — by the rich and most powerful at the endless expense of the working class, so pervasive and jaw-dropping that they don’t bother trying to hide their theft and corruption anymore.
It’s the disdainful disregard of our own history littered with costly failures and painful tragedies so many times before, here and abroad, which might teach us a valuable lesson if we’d only try and learn — yet we never, never, never, never do.
It’s the selective enforcement of law and order, wrapped in the flag and bull-horned by verses in the Bible, at the cost of truth, science, morality, common decency, and the desecration of human freedom.
It’s placing public trust in the most untrustworthy of all of our citizens, despite all their proven misdeeds and crimes that we no longer find shocking, but now have come to expect, and many willingly accept.

Nearly a thousand who were surveyed revealed what they thought the USA and the rest of the world would be like in the year 2025. Now (actually 26 years later), it’s time for a final grade and the report card. How did they do on their predictions?

AN ATHEIST’S GUIDE TO CHRISTMAS
We are not Christians. To us, The Bible is historical fiction. Great book, way ahead of its time. But pure fantasy. It was the Alice in Wonderland of its day, only more violent and much scarier.
We do not believe in the so-called “miracle” of a virgin birth, which supposedly occurred 2,025 years ago around this time in Bethlehem — a town someplace in the Middle East (not Pennsylvania). We do not bow our heads in prayer, because no one up there or down there or out there is listening. Sure, we should always be respectful and acknowledge others to believe as they wish. But don’t expect us to “pretend.” Nope. We certainly don’t adhere to ancient belief systems lacking any tangible evidence forged during the Bronze Age by ancestors prone to mass hysteria and superstition. In short, we believe the “traditional” religious-version of Christmas is entirely bogus.

Dating back as long as I can remember, every Sunday night of my adult life was spent in front of the television watching CBS’ much-acclaimed 60 Minutes. The weekly trifecta of news features was an important part of our lives. Sunday nights spent with Mike Wallace, Dan Rather, Morley Safer, Ed Bradley, and the rest of the journalists dropped the demarcation of a national drawbridge: One week ended and another began. This was especially true before the internet started scrambling our brains and when fewer options existed to stay informed about current events. 60 Minutes was THE SHOW, one reason a news hour was near top of the TV rankings for five decades.
