There are many terrible books, but not many are worse than the (so-called) Holy Bible. With it’s clear and unwavering instructions on how to beat slaves, its open advocacy of stoning adulterers to death, its call for mass retribution and revenge by burning innocents alive in fire and brimstone, and a professed destiny for all humankind that promises us mass murder on an unprecedented scale ending in a global holocaust, this isn’t a guide book on living. Rather, it’s celebration of death, paved in mass punishments. It’s a sick, sadistic tribulation of horror. It’s a delivery device of terror. The Holy Bible is a far scarier book than anything ever dreamed about by Stephen King.

Fortunately, it’s *also* a book of fiction.

Toasted Gastrobrunch gets my highest recommendation. After two lunchtime visits, I’m astonished by the high quality, the amazingly wide variety, fast and friendly service, and extraordinary value of everything I’ve tasted on their menu. Oh, and they have an amazing special promotion right now that I have to tell you about. You won’t believe this.

Preface:  Last week marked the 25th anniversary of Stu Ungar’s death.  In remembrance of the occasion, I was featured in a few interviews and was asked to share my memories of being with Ungar.

 

I remembered my experiences of working with him, and eventually co-writing One of a Kind:  The Rise and Fall of Stuey ‘the Kid’ Ungar, the World’s Greatest Poker Player (with Peter Alson).
