March Madness: Is the “Connecticut Parlay” a Smart Bet at 79-1?

I’m not superstitious, but keep in mind the two times when UConn won their duel championships was in 2004, and then again in 2014. Now, here we are ten years later in 2024.
I penned this article for casinos.com on the unique situation regarding the two UConn basketball teams participating in this year’s March Madness tournaments (men’s and women’s).

Nolan, I promise you with minimal shopping around if you bet UConn money line each game you will get a significantly better price than 79/1 if they both win. It won’t be close.
Also, you said the lady huskies are hungry to get back to the final four. You really think they’re hungrier than any other team?
NOLAN REPLIES:
I never bet parlays. Well, almost never — for the reason you cite. That said, I recognize many bettors are in this for fun and want action and won’t have options to bet a dozen games with line shopping, etc. If someone wants to invest $50 or a $100 this is probably more time wise and worry free….something to keep in mind for casual bettors. As for “hungry” and other cliches in sports, it’s a matter of making it fun. Also, I do think teams that can recall a previous year disappointment (which applies to UC women’s last season ending the streak) does slightly kickstart better efforts and perhaps the avoidance of mistakes that happened previously. But its a small edge, if any.
