With Henry Orenstein at the 2014 WSOP moments after he cashed out in eighth place in the Seven-Card Stud World Championship.
A few days ago, when Henry Orenstein entered the $10,000 buy-in Seven-Card Stud event here at the 2014 World Series of Poker, not many thought he had much of a chance playing against many of the best players in the world. Let’s face it, at 90-years-old, just making it through the grind of the three-day poker tournament would be difficult enough, let alone outplaying the rest of the field.
Well, Mr. Orenstein knows a thing or two about surviving. He outlasted all but seven players in the tournament and ended up finishing in eighth place. Mr. Orenstein cashed for the first time here in 18 years. His last in-the-money finish was the Seven-Card Stud championship back in 1996 — which he won.
Mr. Orenstein is most certainly this year’s oldest player to make the money. He may even be the oldest player ever to cash at the WSOP. Unfortunately, age records were not available for many of the early years of the WSOP. But a record may very well have been set here today.
