Zaytoon’s Restaurant and Market has been our “go-to” for “to go” for quite a long time. Simple. Fresh. Delicious. Affordable. Quick. Family owned and run, the restaurant-market is informal. Zaytoon’s has only about six tables, but does a busy takeout business, especially at night.
Restaurant Review: Zaytoon’s Restaurant and Market
S. Durango Rd. and W. Twain
Many of us have unwittingly become dependent on takeout in the current climate. Fortunately, there are a number of very good and economical to-go spots all over Las Vegas, and many are concentrated on the west side of town.
Zaytoon’s has been our “go-to” for “to go” for quite a long time now. Simple. Fresh. Delicious. Affordable. Quick. Can’t beat that five-spot keno ticket.
At first glance, Persian cuisine might not appeal to the unadventurous meat and potatoes crowd, and if we tag it as “Iranian” food, that’s not going bring in many customers. However, Iran’s native ethnic groups (loosely categorized as “Persian”) have contributed immensely to culinary culture on a global scale.
Family owned and run, the restaurant-market is informal. Zaytoon’s has only about six tables, but does a busy takeout business, especially at night. It’s part of a larger international market that sells Middle Eastern food products. The food and service are as good as you will find. You can’t go wrong with any of the traditional Persian meat and rice dishes. The Koobideh (ground beef kabob) is my favorite, which is skewered with spices and comes with Saffron rice, grilled tomato, and chopped raw onions. The soups are also highly unusual and full of flavor. The Ashe Soup (aka Ash-e Reshteh Persian Legume Soup) is one of the best in the city.
Nothing fancy. But great food and good service.
Here’s my late lunch today. Not bad for $13 and a two-minute drive up the street:
— Kabob Koobideh (Persian Ground Meat Kabobs) — topped with Sumac
— Grilled Tomato
— Grilled Onions
— Fluffy Rice
— Shirazi Salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, olive oil, spices)
I enjoy Zaytoon’s and recommend this to everyone, especially for take-out.
