Cracking Up and Leaving the Club

I just learned that they changed the recipe of CLUB CRACKERS.

I knew it! Something was wrong. The taste wasn’t the same anymore.

Read: Did Kelloggs change club crackers?

I’ve been eating CLUB CRACKERS for 50 years. Like just about everyone else of my generation, I first started weaning on SALTINES. I still like SALTINES, especially with dishes like chili and chicken noodle soup. For some reason, SALTINES taste better with certain kinds of food. But CLUB CRACKERS are my cracker crack. And, now they’re diluting my supply! (*see footnote)

Come to find out, food giant Kelloggs bought CLUB CRACKERS years ago, but kept the same ingredients for awhile. Then, they figured they could save money and boost profits by screwing with decades of success. They changed perfection. Now, CLUB CRACKERS are less buttery. They also crumble easier, like they’re drier. In other words, they’re starting to suck.

As for alternatives, I do like RITZ crackers — if for no other reason than one cracker fits entirely into my mouth and I can wolf down a half a stack and then seal up the brown circular bag, which is very convenient to keep the remaining crackers fresh for next time (too much detail?). Trouble is, RITZ crackers have a semi-burned taste. They are good with cheeses, but I don’t like them as much as CLUB CRACKERS. Well, that’s now changed. I’m jumping ship!

CLUB CRACKERS, goodbye and so long. You cut on quality, you suffer the consequences.

I hereby declare I’m getting a cracker divorce. Right after I finish this box.

Note:  I suspected something was wrong but thought maybe I am losing taste buds (which does happen as we age). But even the texture and color are now different, so a Google search revealed they did screw things up. Nice job, Kellogg’s, you corporate slugs.
