An Update on Pete the Peacock (Animal Cruelty)

A few days ago, I wrote this terrible story about Pete the Peacock here who was a beloved member of the community in West Las Vegas.

Someone senselessly killed it with a bow and arrow. A hunter, a kid, a deranged psychopath. I wish I had better news that the murderer who shot this gorgeous animal with an arrow purely out of cruelty had been caught, but unfortunately I can’t give any such updates.

However, I do appreciate what Nicholas Kho has done here and sharing his memories which I think serves to reinforce the bond that we should have with nature and the common respect that animals deserve in sharing our world — including our urban environments.

Pete was laid to rest today in a pet cemetery off of Craig Road in Northwest Las Vegas. Although he didn’t get to live a full life, at least his death might lead to more compassion and less cruelty.

Please take a moment to read Nicholas’s wonderful words in remembrance. Also, please share so we can catch this awful person who took away a small piece of us all.

A Journey of Love and Loss: Remembering Pete the Peacock 🦚

Today, I find myself reflecting on the passing of a dear friend who came into my life at a time of profound loss. Meet Pete the peacock, a majestic and adventurous soul, who entered my world through a mighty storm that blew open my front door. His unexpected arrival, symbolizing new beginnings, marked the start of a journey intertwined with love, lessons, and resilience.

Pete quickly became a cherished part of my daily routine, both indoors and outdoors, soaring through the neighborhood with an uncontainable joy. As he visited me and my cats for food and affection, his vibrant presence brightened each day. Little did I know that his time with us would serve as a profound reminder of the transformative power of love.

Tragedy struck when Pete’s life was cut short by an act of senseless violence. A mentally ill man took his life with a crossbow, leaving a void in our hearts and a sense of injustice in the air. The community rallied in a beautiful memorial service, where neighbors, friends, and even news stations gathered to honor this divine creature. As we stood together in prayer, Pete’s message resonated clearly: the world needs more love, and new beginnings are possible for each of us.

In the midst of my own hero journey, having lost my wife and navigating the uncharted waters of building a new life, Pete’s presence offered comfort and guidance. His passing brought tears and deep sorrow, but his spirit lives on in my heart, filling me with an overwhelming love that transcends grief.

As we lay Pete to rest at the Craig Road Pet Cemetery, surrounded by other beloved animals, a blue bench and gravestone will stand as a testament to his hero’s journey. His story is a reminder that even in the face of darkness, love can guide us to new chapters and blessings. Pete’s legacy lives on, urging us all to embrace more love and embark on our own heroic quests.
