Dick Cheney’s Book: Why Isn’t This Lying, Thieving Bastard in Jail?

Dick Cheney got everything wrong.

“America would be hard-pressed to find a more despicable political autocrat than Dick Cheney, who not only refuses to disappear but just won’t shut up.”

Note:  Obviously, I wrote this column before Donald Trump arrived on the political scene.

Why would we listen to a disgraced war profiteer, who has been proven wrong on virtually every issue now trying to sell a book?

Given his beastly record and the volumes of hogwash he’s promulgated over the years, one would expect some quiet restraint, humility, and perhaps even an apology.

Not happening.  Apparently, this congenital liar and corrupt war profiteer just released a new book, and now expects us all to take notice of his vast “wisdom.”

Excuse me while I choke on my own vomit while busting a rib from laughter.

This disgraced former Vice President of the United States, who’s been proven wrong — time after time, again and again — on just about everything and anything having to do with the use of American military force, foreign diplomacy, national security, and the Middle East, continues to shamelessly bubble over like an overflowing toilet, completely oblivious to his preposterously discredited views both past and present, his utter failure to take any personal responsibility whatsoever for the hundreds of thousands of deaths of Iraqis and Americans, and trillions of dollars in wasted treasure at his direction during his watch — and worst of all, the tainted billions in war profits he and his corrupt cronies at Halliburton have reaped and raped from more than a decade of falsehoods and misery.

Dick Cheney is a disgrace.  No other nation on earth would have allowed such a blatant conflict of interest to exist, or go unpunished.

Inexplicably, we let someone who was once the second most powerful figure in the nation (he actually made many of the major decisions on Iraq policy) pull our nation into not one, but two of the longest wars in American history.  Meanwhile, while brave American soldiers were dying in pointless ethnic and religious conflicts with no end, his cozy chums in the defense contracting business made a fortune.  One estimate put Halliburton’s war profits at $39.5 billion (that’s with a “B”).  Cheney himself, the former CEO of Halliburton, did very well financially, indeed.  He shouldn’t be giving lectures to the American Enterprise Institute, as he was earlier this week.  He shouldn’t be lecturing anyone, other than perhaps a psychiatrist.  Fact is, Cheney should be in jail.  If Watergate figures Chuck Colson and John Dean did time for their supposed crimes, which were relatively tame in comparison to this level of pain and plunder, then this pirate should be busting rocks for what remains of his miserable life.

But Cheney’s not in jail.  No.  To the contrary, he’s placed upon a pedestal at FOX News, which somehow still looks upon this miserable despot as some kind of elder statesman, even in the face of so many abject failures, omissions, miscalculations, and intentional lies which no one can quarrel with because they’re so abundant and continue to linger as both an embarrassment on what remains of any legacy of a once-venerable Dick Cheney, but an ugly stain on the national character of the United States of America.  It’s hard to be taken seriously in international circles when one of the key guys pulling the levers of war in the White House is part owner of the munitions factory.

Cheney’s own statements about the Iraq War and Afghanistan War and their aftermath are all a matter of public record, revealing an unequaled level of ignorance and arrogance — almost unfathomable in modern times outside of some corrupt banana republic.  How can someone be so goddamned wrong so….many….times, so….very….often, and then still be given opportunities to appear on national television as some kind of authority figure?  I suppose we’ll have to leave that enigma up to Fox News and its brainless viewers who must be living in some twisted alternative universe of reality for listening to this evil creep.

Even a few sane Republicans now, can’t stomach this monster any longer and have been compelled to speak out:

Let’s go back and review the “wisdom” of Dick Cheney himself.  Note that I had trouble limiting this to just a handful of quotes.  There are so many that are so wrong:

We believe (Saddam Hussein) has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons.” -Dick Cheney, NBC’s Meet the Press (3/16/2003) — WRONG!

“And Saddam Hussein becomes a prime suspect in that regard because of his past track record and because we know he has, in fact, developed these kinds of capabilities, chemical, and biological weapons. . . We know that he has a long-standing relationship with various terrorist groups, including the al-Qaeda organization.” –Dick Cheney, NBC’s Meet the Press (3/16/2003) — WRONG!

My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators…I think it will go relatively quickly…[in] weeks rather than months.” –Dick Cheney (3/19/2003)   — WRONG!

“I continue to believe. I think there’s overwhelming evidence that there was a connection between al-Qaeda and the Iraqi government.” –Dick Cheney, Morning Edition, NPR (1/22/2004) — WRONG!

“We haven’t really had the time yet to pore through all those records in Baghdad.  We’ll find ample evidence confirming the link, that is the connection if you will between al Qaida and the Iraqi intelligence services.  They have worked together on a number of occasions.” -Dick Cheney, Interview with the Rocky Mountain News (January 2004) — WRONG!

“Question:  About a year ago, you said that the insurgency in Iraq was in its final throes.  Do you still believe this?  Cheney:  Yes.“ – Dick Cheney (3/18/2006)  — WRONG!

“If we had to do it over again we would do exactly the same thing.” – Dick Cheney (9/10/2006) — REALLY?

“There’s a lot of provinces in Iraq that are relatively quiet.  There’s more and more authority transferred to the Iraqis all the time…. Bottom line is that we’ve had enormous successes and we will continue to have enormous successes.” -Dick Cheney, appearing on CNN (1/24/2007) — WRONG!

“(On another 9/11 type attack after President Obama’s election in 2008):  I think there’s a high probability of such an attempt.  Whether or not they can pull it off depends whether or not we keep in place policies that have allowed us to defeat all further attempts, since 9/11, to launch mass-casualty attacks against the United States.” -Dick Cheney, Politico (2-5/2009) — WRONG!

“(On President Obama): I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we’ve ever had.” -Dick Cheney, Daily Kos (3/8/2015)NO, MR. VICE PRESIDENT…THAT WOULD BE YOUR FORMER BOSS WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS.

Wrong time after time.  Profiting from war.  Unapologetic.  Highly critical of the president.

So, what says Mr. Cheney about the international treaty recently signed with Iran?  Why he’s opposed to it!  Of course!

Based on this lying thief’s despicable record on foreign affairs, and his statements past and present, if that’s not a ringing endorsement that we should all be supporting the Iran deal, I don’t know what is.
