What’s the Greatest Music Video of All Time?

This is my latest question posted as part of the “An Unconventional Convention” series, which is a regular feature on Facebook.

AN UNCONVENTIONAL CONVENTION: 158

Let’s make today’s question really fun.

Question: What’s the greatest music video of all time?

Music videos actually began in the 1950s, with performers doing promos of hit songs. Bands in the 1960s and 1970s often filmed their most popular music set to thin plotlines in hastily-produced videos. But “seeing” most songs back then consisted of live performances.

On August 1, 1981, everything changed. MTV debuted and music was never the same again. Videos became an essential component of creating hit songs. The release of new music videos was actually “an event.”

Many of us who grew up with MTV were surprised to see its demise. We thought music videos would be around forever, but music videos began fading as a popular phenomenon. Now, with digital on-demand music, videos even seem archaic.

Fortunately, we have a tremendous catalog of great recordings and videos, all of which are available on YouTube.
Your mission, should you wish to accept the challenge is to name (and please post from YouTube) your vote for the best music video in history.

Bonus Question: What’s your FAVORITE music video of all time? Note that the video you think is best might not be the same as the one you consider to be your personal favorite
