Video: Running in the Lakes (Las Vegas)

Some advice on running for older and overweight people on ways to ease into a workout routine — recorded at the Lakes (Las Vegas) on 6 May 2021.

The biggest mistake many beginning runners make is doing too much, too fast, too soon.

Don’t do that.  Start slow.  Walk even.  Jog some later on.  Work your way up into running.  Otherwise, you will hate it and give up early.  That’s what happens to most runners.  That’s why many exercise plans fail.

Listen.

I’m not a health guru.  I’m overweight.  I eat too much.  I drink too much.  And I don’t have a regret in the world about any of it.  The key to running, or working out, is creating a routine where — YOU LOOK FORWARD TO IT EACH DAY.

That’s the key.

In these videos, I talk a little bit about running.  I’ve been doing this for the past nine years.  Watch, and hopefully enjoy.  Note that these are very rough takes intended to give some indication of what’s possible.

I live in the Lakes section of Las Vegas.

Today, I shot two short videos — one approaching the west side of the lake and the second from the park at the south side.

In the coming days and weeks, I’ll post more.  The best thing I can say about running versus staying at home and working out on a treadmill or going to the gym is, there’s nothing better than getting outdoors.
