Unsure About Adopting a Pet? Try Fostering

The Animal Foundation here in Las Vegas is asking those who are even THINKING of adding a member to the family to do it NOW. You don’t even have to make a full commitment at this time. Call it a test drive. Or a trial period.  Please consider FOSTERING.

Before COVID, I did some volunteer work with the Animal Foundation. It’s one of the most fulfilling things a person can do. I just wish I had the time to do more.

One thing I’ve just learned is the AF facility here in Las Vegas is nearing full capacity. This organization in particular goes out of its way to give “harder to adopt” animals a chance. For instance, there are many pit bulls, non-dogs and -cats (rabbits, chickens, ducks, even pigs), and special needs animals desperately in need of homes.

The problem is — with July 4th nearing — and weeks of fireworks blowing up all over the city — there’s always a SURGE in lost animals. Animals panic and run away. The shelter gets swamped in July. There’s a chance the shelter might have to turn away pets, which would be tragic. Summer months with triple-digit temperatures are also a much tougher time because of the heat.

The AF is asking those who are even THINKING of adding a member to the family to do it NOW. You don’t even have to make a full commitment at this time. Call it a test drive. Or a trial period.

The AF offers a wonderful FOSTER PROGRAM where you try out the animal for a week or two before making a decision. Even if you decide the pet isn’t for you, just taking an animal for a few weeks can give it new hope and a chance at life later on.

I URGE all of my Las Vegas friends to check out the AF website and if you live elsewhere, please consider your local shelter. There are so many wonderful animals who need us and are begging for new homes and the opportunity to join a family.

Thanks for reading.
