Near disaster was averted this week when my little moneymaker finally showed up this morning at 8 am, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to make her NFL selection for Sunday.
Yesterday, in a panic, I asked my cat “Alex” to fill in, just in case the pigeon no-showed for the video. I placed a few cat treats on the ground for Alex and then asked him to first make his decision as to how to proceed — the “side wager” versus the “teaser wheel.” The video reveals that Alex wanted absolutely nothing to do with making a football pick this weekend (smart cat), a bit of a surprise considering his pedigree. Note that Alex, now 15-years-old, is the only cat ever in history who has ever actually won a real pot on a live poker room. True story: Alex dragged a big pot in a No-Limit Hold’em game back in the summer of 2003 at Binion’s Horseshoe, before it closed down (I brought him in one night when I was working there and he played my chips, and Gavin Smith’s, as well). Alex will play our chips, but won’t touch my teaser wheel. Like I said, smart cat.
Fortunately, the moneymaker arrived just in time to complete the second part of the video, which shows her making two decisions. Note that the black and white pigeon from last week (I intentionally picked that one because it’s easier to identify) correctly picked the Indianapolis Colts +6.5 The play looked terrible for most of the game which was against Carolina. But the Colts stormed back, sent the game into overtime, and ended up with the cover plus the points. Pigeon is perfect on the season, at 1-0 and $1,000 to the good.
Here’s the pigeon’s pick for this week, which is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -2.5 as a side bet, playing at home against the New York Giants. Tampa Bay was a bruiser for me last week, defeating Atlanta. So, the pigeon obviously knows some history. Let’s see what happens. Here’s evidence of her Tampa Bay pick, along with a cameo of Alex the cat, in this 3-minute video clip.
Go Tampa Bay!
