The Next Fontainebleau?
THE NEXT FONTAINEBLEAU?
Here we go — again.
I hereby propose that in the future, before any construction begins and permits are given on these giant mega projects, the City of Las Vegas and/or Clark County should demand that ownership post a cash bond with a clause that specifies the following:
If the building project is not completed by a certain time frame then the city has a right to seize the property and all assets and auction off all holdings to satisfy the cost of demolition.
After the fuck pig of a fiasco of what happened to the Fontainebleau, you’d think we’d get wise to the charade. That scam ruined an entire neighborhood and several city blocks for 15+ years (and remains an eyesore). How’d you like to be a small business owner with that shit pile of a mess across the street? The city and our leadership have a responsibility and an obligation to protect nearby businesses and the image of the city and should take over any failed projects ruined by greed and incompetence.

Yeah, I’m sick of speculators using lax laws and lack of regulations as a drunken craps table, often falling back on bankruptcy filings and new-ownership flips (investment reaper Carl Icahn made $400 million buying and then reselling the dormant Fontainebleau without sinking a penny into the project). Meanwhile, everyone is left holding an empty bag and is forced to deal with rust and dust for years, which (in this case) turned into decades.
Here’s more about Dream Las Vegas, which apparently might become The Strip’s next nightmare.

* It should be noted many parts of The Strip are immune from City or County oversight. Â It’s tricky, and I don’t know the actual boundaries. However, law enforcement patrols The Strip and there’s some jurisdiction, but a large swath of it is unincorporated as the Township of Paradise, NV and some of the northern Strip is officially Winchester, NV. I’m not sure exactly which laws and oversight apply but I presume the early developers of The Strip didn’t want possible City or County intervention.
