I lost a lot of respect for Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes in yesterday’s game.
The superstar player was outraged when a referee threw a late flag when a Kansas City wide receiver lined up offsides on the game’s final drive. One could dismiss the rant as a “heat of the moment” overreaction. However, Mahomes later continued with his angry spectacle after the game ended and then embarrassed himself and disgraced his team in a fiery post-game press conference. READ MORE HERE
Mahomes’ actions during and after the game were a complete disgrace. The official MADE THE CORRECT CALL. This is beyond dispute. Unfortunately, a spectacular, game-changing, likely-winning play was nullified. However, ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY for the infraction is on the Chiefs’ player (and staff who presumably could have yelled to “back up” from the sideline). READ MORE HERE
If Mahomes (and head coach Andy Reid) were upset with the flag, then get mad as hell at their IDIOT WIDE RECEIVER who was so dumb he couldn’t even line up onside. You’ve got one job, asshat. Blame YOUR team. Blame YOUR coaching staff for not paying attention to the game when the outcome was on the line.
Yes, referees do make mistakes. All the time. When they blow a call, I’m the first to rant about it. But let’s also acknowledge when the official gets a call RIGHT. What next? Yelling at refs for not “warning” a player he’s about to commit a penalty? Huh? Who’s job is that? Making correct calls on the field is tough enough without a prima donna barking insults and going stark-raving mad because HIS team blew it and couldn’t even execute the basics of football by lining up ON FUCKING SIDES.
Mahomes and Reid owe the official an apology. If that apology is not forthcoming, then I’m off the Mahomes respect wagon. Fuck him. And don’t give me any bullshit about passion for the game and wanting to win. All NFL players have that inside them and just because Mahomes is a star doesn’t excuse being WRONG on every facet of the spectacle. The NFL should also FINE them both for the appalling criticism they leveled at a professional for DOING HIS JOB and doing it CORRECTLY.
That was a despicable scene we witnessed. I expect it will turn off many fans who otherwise respected this player and coach.
