….great rock and blues legend, brilliant songwriter, and legendary pianist — Leon Russell.
Time for another rambling wreck of random thoughts and occasionally wacky ideas, about whatever comes to mind during this midnight hour on a hot August night here in Las Vegas.
Split personality here in Las Vegas this week. Half of me will soon miss the World Series of Poker, which is just about to conclude for the summer. This year’s series has consumed most of my time and energy during the past six weeks. All of it, in fact. What was left, was spent on the launch of the new television show on CBS Sports Network, “Poker Night in America.” Between these two major events, I haven’t had much time to follow current events, see movies, go to restaurants, or get fed up with the world. Beware people! Major bitch fest coming in a week or so when I’ll launch into a major tirade. So many things on my plate right now, I’m already preparing for leftovers.

- Stuff is falling off my plate right now, which is nothing unusual for someone who likes to eat. But it’s all things poker-related at the moment, including my ongoing work for Poker Night in America and the 45th annual World Series of Poker which is fast approaching. Nevertheless, there’s still time to stop for reflection.

Writer’s Note: Today, I’m launching a new semi-occasional column which I’ll update every month, or so. It’s called “Scattershooting.” I
borrowed ripped-off this concept from a former legendary sportswriter named Blackie Sherrod, who used to write for the now-defunct Dallas Times-Herald. Blackie wrote a column every Sunday which appeared in the Sports section. He’d post short snippets about what was going on in sports and elsewhere, and then give his opinions. Blackie always began his column with the familiar trademark line, “Scattershooting, while wondering whatever happened to…..” — followed by some famous name that seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Here’s “Scattershooting” column number one.
