Odds on the November Nine (2014 World Series of Poker Final Table)

Note:  The following is provided for information and discussion purposes only.  I do not encourage nor endorse any gambling site or wagering on the World Series of Poker final table, or any other poker event.

Bovada Sportsbook has released odds on this year’s “November Nine.”  These are the remaining players still in the hunt to become the 2014 world poker champion.

A few interesting things about these odds and my personal thoughts (not to be taken as the basis for any wager):

All-In Magazine’s Moving Video Tribute to the Late Chad Brown

All In Magazine (and website) recently released a quite moving tribute to the late poker pro Chad Brown, who passed away two months ago.

Someone sent the link to me yesterday, which shows a five-minute video with remembrances by many of Chad’s closest friends and associates.  I must say, All In did a wonderful job on this.  Interviews were done at the very first “Chad Brown Charity Poker Tournament.”  The memorial ceremony and poker tourney was held at Binion’s Casino in July.

Kudos to Vanessa Rousso for all she did to make this event happen and for her boundless energy and brave face in what was certainly one of the most difficult times of her own life.  I was also touched that so many people in the poker community turned out for the tribute, which merits looking back upon now.  Hopefully, this event which raised money to fight the type of cancer that ended Chad’s life will become and annual event held each summer.

Congratulations Henry Orenstein (He’s In the Money!)

With Henry Orenstein at the 2014 WSOP moments after he cashed out in eighth place in the Seven-Card Stud World Championship.

A few days ago, when Henry Orenstein entered the $10,000 buy-in Seven-Card Stud event here at the 2014 World Series of Poker, not many thought he had much of a chance playing against many of the best players in the world.  Let’s face it, at 90-years-old, just making it through the grind of the three-day poker tournament would be difficult enough, let alone outplaying the rest of the field.

Now and Then with Perry Green

Perry Green at the 2014 World Series of Poker

Perry Green has won three World Series of Poker gold bracelets, all earned during the 1970’s.  However, it’s the one he narrowly missed which for which he’s most remembered.

In 1981, Green held the chip lead at one point in the WSOP Main Event Championship.  He ended up finishing second on that historic occasion to the late Stu Ungar, regarded by many as one of the greatest poker players in history.  However, Green outlasted Ungar and most of his peers in a far more siginificant pursuit.  In the bigger game of life where the stakes are truly most meaningful, Green remains one of poker’s greatest champions.
