Sad News for Voters: Republicans Won’t Fix Inflation (They Probably Make It Worse)

SAD NEWS FOR VOTERS

I have some sad news for you voters in the upcoming election.

The congressional candidate you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The governor you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The senator you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The state representative you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The mayor you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The country commissioner you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

The dog catcher you vote for is NOT going to cure inflation.

Here’s more sad news:

The congressional candidate you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The governor you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The senator you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The state representative you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The mayor you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The country commissioner you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

The dog catcher you vote for is NOT going to reduce gas prices.

Starting to get the picture?

I hate to break this sad news to you. But, there is no Santa Claus. There is no Easter Bunny. There is no magic wand that can be waved and make inflation go away and gas prices go down.

So, wake the fuck up and face reality.

Inflation was the INEVITABLE aftermath of a global interruption of mass production and distribution during and following COVID and an international shutdown that’s a once-in-a-century event (hopefully). Inflation was the natural CONSEQUENCE of rising wages for the working class in many sectors, which has lagged for decades. Inflation is a GLOBAL reality right now.  GLOBAL!  That means the good old U.S.A. is just one of a hundred countries going through the exact same thing.  American leaders, no matter what party they belong to, have little to do with inflation and gas prices (the Federal Reserve is non-partisan).

Right now, the U.S. inflation rate is approximately 8.2 percent. But look around, if you can take your eyes off the football game for 5 minutes. It’s 9.9 percent in the UK (and they are led by a conservative). It’s 8.9 percent in Italy. It’s 10.1 percent in Germany. It’s 14.5 percent in The Netherlands. Hell, it’s 84 percent in Argentina! Do you REALLY think President Joe Biden has anything to do with global inflation impacting EVERY nation right now? Or Senator Catherine Cortez Masto? Or Gov. Steve Sisolak?

Good grief.  Really?

Are you naive enough and gullible enough to actually believe electing Republicans is going to reduce inflation? Okay — how? Show me the economic plan. Do you believe the myth that giving more tax breaks to the super-wealthy and giant corporations will help reduce inflation?

FACT: Trump’s disastrous tax cuts for the super-wealthy and corporations (which failed to “trickle down”).  FACT:  The stimulus money sent out during the pandemic (which was probably painful medicine, but absolutely necessary to keep the economy moving during the shutdown), and unfathomable corporate greed and record profits (oil companies are doing just fine, folks!) created a predictable landscape where inflation was AN ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY. FACT:  It wouldn’t matter if Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz, or Mickey Mouse was elected in 2020, HIGHER INFLATION WAS INEVITABLE. it wouldn’t matter. I don’t see a single reputable economist who disagrees with this.

So, still not convinced? You don’t like inflation? Well then, thank CAPITALISM!  Thank the wondrous joys of the FREE MARKET! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the economic system YOU have chosen.  It’s based on supply and demand that allows most sectors to set prices which are then dictated by the market. You want the government to “do something.” Wake up. The government can’t just “do something,” well, not much anyway, at least nothing that’s going to make an impact globally.  You can’t have it both ways.  You either get this fact, or you don’t.

Sorry voters. The Republicans who keep lying to you and want to let capitalism and the free market run wild are NOT going to fix inflation.  They won’t fix inflation in your city.  Not in your state.  Not in this country.  Not in the world.   Letting free-market conservatives run things could even make things worse.
