Restaurant Review: Steiner’s A Nevada Style Pub (Las Vegas)

My review of Steiner’s Pub in Las Vegas (Buffalo location).

Steiner’s — A Nevada Style Pub has three centrally-located locations in Las Vegas. I frequent the spot on N. Buffalo, just south of Lake Mead.

My posting of this review of Steiner’s might surprise a few readers. Why? Because, in general, I loathe pub/bar/lounge food. I mean, I simply refuse to eat it. “Fast food, but less convenient” is the way I describe the greasy spoons which are secondary to the bar and video poker. It’s like the food is an afterthought, and it shows (yeah, I’m talking about PTs, etc.). Note: Anytime I’ve had the misfortune to be stuck in a PTs, I order breakfast no matter what time of day. I figure it’s hard to screw up scrambled eggs.

Steiner’s is an island in a sea of really bad Las Vegas pub food. It’s quite good, and most of the ingredients are surprisingly high quality.

I can’t recall who or what first introduced me to Steiner’s. I think it was a 2-for-1 coupon online or perhaps the Entertainment Book (same deal). Getting $40 for $20 is worth a shot almost anywhere and rolling the dice on quality.

Well, I ended up shooting a natural 7 and got paid off nicely with a heaping bowl of spaghetti and meatballs on that debut visit. Plus, a fresh Caesar salad that was made with real anchovies, and seasoned perfectly. Their Tuesday special is spaghetti and meatballs, and for $15 all-inclusive, it’s a very pleasing bargain.

Unfortunately, since COVID I’ve not had the opportunity to enjoy the specials. In fact, Steiner’s closed down for a time. But the bar and kitchen (which is open air to the dining area) are serving again. They take reservations and operate at 25 percent capacity. Seating is spread out and the dividers between booths make this well managed under current conditions.

Steiner’s has an email club and generous rewards program. Apparently, I qualified for a free meal, so we enjoyed another bargain this Saturday afternoon.

Today’s fare was Chicken Piccata, which I’d never had here before. I’m VERY picky on Northern Italian dishes and often find myself lecturing waiters and then getting confused stares and annoyed frowns in return. At Steiner’s, I was shocked to receive the correct presentation, without the lecture. The chicken cutlet was placed perfectly over the pasta, braised in lemon and butter, and parsley. Grilled asparagus was the vegetable, and garlic toast was included on the side. Of course, all Chicken Piccata dishes come with capers, and these were particularly flavorful (see photo).

I also added the fresh Caesar salad for $3, which was generous in size and the usual quality that I recall when having it on previous occasions.

Steiner’s offers an extensive menu — especially for a pub — including daily specials and happy hour appetizers. The manager stated this was the “scaled down” menu due to limitations on customers, but I didn’t feel the least bit slighted. I hope to see and experience more of the menu in the future.

The only downside to Steiner’s is the pricing, which is higher than what one might expect at a local pub. The Chicken Piccata was $24, but with the special 2-for-1 offer, came to just half that. So, be sure and sign up for the club, because those offers, including free birthday meals, are fabulous.

Steiner’s is a sports-themed bar and TVs showing games are everywhere. The sound and music were set at just the right volume. They used to be open 24/7 but now close at midnight due to restrictions.

I highly recommend Steiner’s, which has an outstanding kitchen. I also emphasize locals should take advantage of their specials and email promotions. And, if we can give them a little extra love in the meantime with an occasional visit, I’m sure they’d appreciate that, too.

  1. you hit the nail on the head here. this place is absolutely great. i’d highly recommend it as well.

  2. Thanks so much for the wonderful review Nolan. We really do enjoy every aspect of running a great restaurant that also doubles as a jamming video poker bar. We take pride in all our food, drinks, cleanliness, service, and promotions and will for many more years to come serving Las Vegas for 23 great years so far.
