Recommendation: Patisserie Manon (on West Charleston in Las Vegas)

RECOMMENDATION: PATISSERIE MANON BAKERY / DELI (ON WEST CHARLESTON)

Patisserie Manon (bakery) opened in 2010 on W. Charleston, in a strip mall directly behind the Fleming’s Steakhouse. We’ve been here many times. However, I’d forgotten what a great value their dine-in lunch specials are — which are always fresh and delicious.

Note: This Manon location is not to be confused with *Manan Bakery* on W. Flamingo, which is an Armenian-run place (also pretty good).

Our last two visits I ordered the freshly made French crepes, layered with ham and swiss cheese. It also comes with an in-house made Bechamel sauce. Moreover, platters come with a nice salad with a delicious dressing. What I love about these crepes is they’re double-layered, meaning there’s twice as much of the “blanket” to hold in the ingredients. I’ve ordered crepes all over and usually we get a single layer. This strikes me as overly generous, especially for the price.

The full platter is only $10.95 which is a steal in this market and economy. You’d be hard-pressed to find a fast-food meal for that cost.

Manon’s crepes reminded me of those served at Paris (casino), which are always good but also hard to get to for locals. But here, the price is cheaper, plus we get the salad. So, Manon is better.

Today, we also ordered a Croque Madam toastie, with delicious melted cheese, plus the side salad — the daily special all for $8.95. This is a steal!

I’m not as big a fan of the bakery, despite the French flair, and hesitate to include negative comments in this short review given how well they do the deli and lunch items. Las Vegas is notorious for awful baked goods, which often look awesome, but then are so packed with emulcifiers that they’re difficult to consume. I understand shelf life for baked goods is limited and these hard shell casings on “frosting” and gobs of filler keep the desert looking good inside the display case even though it’s stale. But 98 percent of the pastries and cakes in this city suck. I can’t say I’m a fan of Manon’s bakery, though they do offer a few items that are worth doing take-out (banana nut bread is a personal favorite). That said, I do want to point out that I recommend the deli/lunch counter highly, but cannot do the same for the bakery.

Patisserie Manon is a terrific lunch spot. Give Manon a try.
