Real Identity Politics and a Liberal Manifesto

REAL “IDENTITY POLITICS” AND MY LIBERAL MANIFESTO

I don’t have to be a WOMAN to know their personal freedoms are under attack and their privacy is being violated.

I don’t have to be GAY to know that love comes in many forms, and people should be able to create the bonds that make them happy.

I don’t have to be a CHILD to know the real “indoctrination” of young minds takes place in the forced blind obedience to religion and nationalism.

I don’t have to be a recreational MARIJUANA USER to know America’s “War on Drugs” has failed and continues to do more harm than good.

I don’t have to be a MEDICAL PATIENT in a doctor’s office or a hospital to know America’s sick “for-profit” health care system is by far the most expensive, corrupt, and wasteful in the world.

I don’t have to be TRANSGENDER to know some people struggle with biological issues most of us don’t understand, and deserve our compassion rather than ridicule.

I don’t have to be an IMMIGRANT to know most people who come to this country simply want a better life and are willing to work to achieve that dream, just like our own ancestors did generations ago.

I don’t have to be BLACK, or HISPANIC, or a NATIVE AMERICAN to know people in those ethnic groups throughout our nation’s history have been treated appalling by White America.

I don’t have to be POOR to know the primary causes of poverty, ignorance and even crime often stems from unequal access to upward mobility and lack of opportunity.

I don’t have to be a SOCIALIST to know that cooperation works much better than cutthroat competition in building a stronger society that is fair and accessible to everyone.

I don’t have to be a member of a group to know them, understand them, and try to work towards all of our betterment — this is the very essence of liberalism.
