A Personal Note to Readers

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This time of year creates unparalleled anticipationĀ and anĀ equal sense of deprivation.

BeingĀ tied closely toĀ the gambling and poker scene and living in Las Vegas, nothingĀ surpasses working on the staff of the World Series of Poker.Ā  I’m blessed to work alongside so many of the very best at what they do.

Yet at the same time, the 48-day tournament schedule and long hours create hardships. Ā I don’t spend time with family or friends.Ā  I can’t follow the news or engage in any leisure activities.Ā  And now for the first time since my personal blog started about ten months ago — I’ll have to reduce the daily postings.

A typical WSOP workday is from 1 pm until the final tournament of the night ends — which usually happens at around 3 am.Ā  My colleagues who work on the reporting side, for websites such as WSOP.com and other excellent sources of poker news and information, put in similar long hours.Ā  Worse, many of them are on their feet all day.Ā  I get to sit on my ass much of the time and type.

And so, most of my time spent here at the Rio Las Vegas is focused on the WSOP and written reports of official gold bracelet events.Ā  However, I do expect to write and post some “behind the scenes” stories from the floor of the WSOP from time to time.Ā  I should warn you that everything that appears between now and July 20th will be poker and gambling-related.Ā  After that, I’ll return again to politics, religion, and rants.Ā  You can be sure a floodgate will open up then.

In the meantime, I encourage everyone to regularly check out WSOP.com, where I will be focusing most of my energies.

Before the recess, allow me to express my deep thanksĀ for honoring me with caring whatĀ I think and write — or just laughing along with me.

French novelist and essayist Marcel Proust once wrote,Ā ā€œThe real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.ā€

I hope to return toĀ our lifelongĀ discussion next month with a new set of eyes.

Faithfully Yours,

— Nolan Dalla

  1. Ah, the days of WSOP summer, when all that matters is getting out of the parking lot and into the Rio before the soles of your shoes melt.

  2. Good luck, Mr. Dalla, have enjoyed all the posts this year, wishing you the best, stay cool, have fun, and remember to relax when you can!
