There are no words. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 30 years betting on football it’s that no one cares about excuses and worse — no one likes a crybaby. Let’s move on with which I hope will be a strong close and ultimately a winning season.
THIS WEEK’S WAGERS:
OAKLAND / CAROLINA OVER 46.5 (-110) — for 5 units
We have one terrible defense, plus two QBs with decent production the last month. I expect a lot of offensive players will want to pad stats in this meaningless game, and so I’ll go OVER this number.
SEATTLE -1 vs. SAN FRANCISCO -1 (-110) — for 8 units <BEST BET OF THE WEEK>
Seattle is seemingly invincible at home, a perfect 6-0 and getting better by the week. Very tough spot for visiting 49ers who played two tough road games in a row, after last week’s upset at New England. Seattle’s biggest home game in years and I expect they’ll meet he challenge. Still not a fan of Kaepernick.
NY GIANTS / BALTIMORE OVER 47 (-115) — for 5 units
Ravens defense has collapsed and due to injuries is now one of the league’s worst units. I expect both offenses to play a wide open game in what has become a critical game for both teams.
MINNESOTA +9 vs. HOUSTON (-110) — for 4 units
I’m not so sure there’s a 9 point difference between these two teams. When will the Vikings get any respect? Obviously, here they will. I’ll take the generous points and RB Peterson running for the record.
CLEVELAND +12.5 vs. DENVER (-110) — for 5 units
Browns continue to be competitive, despite a less that impressive W-L record. I see this as Denver’s letdown game. In fact, I might even play Browns small on the moneyline. I see a possible upset here. Go ahead and laugh.
6-POINT TEASER: BUFFALO +10.5 / SAN DIEGO + 8.5 — for 7 units
No way Miami should be laying double digits, even against one of the NFL’s worst-coached teams (why does anyone still think Chan Gailey can coach?)…..After about as embarrassing a performance as possible last week, I think Chargers revert back to the team that won in Pittsburgh under much the same circumstances a few weeks ago. Glad to fade awful Jets starting unproven QB getting more than a TD.
FIRST HALF — NEW ORLEANS +.5 vs. DALLAS (-110) — for 5 units
Now that pressure if off in New Orleans, team will likely play better. Witness last week’s easy win. Meanwhile, Dallas seems to fall behind in every game — most wins have been second-half comebacks. New Orleans is the better team and we are getting points. Mandatory wager.
FIRST HALF — CLEVELAND +7.5 (-120) vs. DENVER — for 7 units
Have to take the hook on the 7, with the live dog. This would be best bet material were it not for big play on Seattle.
FIRST HALF – SAN DIEGO +.5 (-110) vs. NY JETS — for 5 units
Will gladly fade any prospect that NY Jets must score points to cover.
