Earlier this week, I penned an article on how sports are ruining the country.

Crazy me — I forgot to mention how sports is destroying my bank account.  I’m still stuck nearly two dimes at the season’s midway point.  A case of bad money management.

Nevertheless, after 5-4 week last Sunday, that’s four winning weeks in a row.  Taking another plunge with eight wagers.

THIS WEEK’S PLAYS:

FIRST HALF TEAM TOTAL:  Atlanta Falcons OVER 9 (-130) — $650 to win $500

FIRST HALF LINE:  Atlanta +5.5 (-110) — $440 to win $400

The Falcons have been shit all season, with only win in last five games versus miserable Tampa, but I think this line has moved too far.  Weeks ago, this line would have been a pick, or perhaps even Atlanta by a few.  Now, it’s -7.5.  I think there’s still enough talent and pride on the Falcons where they’ll show up and at least make it interesting for a while.  Sort of like sailing on the Titantic.  The ship took three hours to sink.  But it covered the spread easily during the first 30 minutes and I’m hoping the Falcons here will do the same.

FIRST HALF TEAM TOTAL:  Minnesota Vikings OVER 9 (-115) — $690 to win $600

How does a team with A. Peterson not score more  points?  Oh that’s right, they fall behind every game, abandon the run, and start throwing the ball.  Nine — seems like a reasonable number of points to top, even though the Vikings have been in a real offensive funk the last month.  Ponder back under center this week, which isn’t the greatest news, but he’s still better than that scrap heap of QBs the Vikings have been using most of the season.  Meanwhile, I’m counting on Dallas to continue its inconsistency and Minnesota to scrap by with a few scores in the first half.  Let’s just hope that doesn’t mean kicking two field goals.

GAME TOTAL:  Philadelphia / Oakland UNDER 45 (-110) — $1100 to win $1000   <BEST BET>

Baffling total.  One of the best totals bets of the season.  Here are two of the strongest rushing teams (at least most rushing attempts) in the league, and worst passing offenses, playing where at least one defense appears to be coming together (Oakland).  Eagles have completely disintegrated on offense and it doesn’t matter if they run 65 plays a game or 90, they aren’t moving the ball or scoring points.  Until I see Eagles make some strides, I’m going UNDER on this team every week as the numbers have not adjusted.  This is not the same high-flying Eagles team we saw the first few weeks of season.  Meanwhile, Oakland is no jaggernaut either on offense, struggling to move the ball all season — even against bad teams.  Hard to see where lots points are going to come from in this game, unless there are a ton of turnovers and some defensive scores.

MONEYLINE BET:  New England to Win Game (-295) — $1485 to win $500

If the Patriots lose this game, I will eat a small mammal.  Uncooked.  Rare moneyline play for me (first posted this entire season).  Main Reason:  The Steelers offensive line is a complete shambles.  Let’s just hope the Patriots don’t sleepwalk like they occasionally have done in games like this.  Why this line isn’t at least a touchdown or more (it’s now at -6) is utterly confusing to me.  Get the small mammal ready.

TEASER:  New England -.5 / Green Bay -5 (-110) — $1100 to win $1000   <BEST BET>

To all you jokers who don’t understand teasers, take a seat, grab a pencil, and take notes.  I’m going to school you on this game.  Perfect example of a situational teaser where we take advantage of some soft numbers, with teams that are clearly superior (largely due to injuries on the opposing team).  After I cash this ticket for a dime, I don’t want to hear any more squawking.  Sit down.  Shut up.  Listen and learn, my freinds.  Free money.  If you have any brains, you’ll play this game yourselves.
