It’s maddening to watch the Right-wing knuckle-draggers bashing what’s arguably Joe Biden’s most important accomplishment in its first year.
Unfortunately, we take infrastructure for granted. We expect the bridge we cross won’t fall down when we try to cross it. We don’t think much about clean water coming out of the tap when we turn on the faucet. We expect planes will fly, trains will get from point A to point B, and ships will sail into our ports. Frankly, we don’t spend much time thinking about how important these things are but try to do without these comforts for a short time and it’s suddenly a crisis.
Fact is — the states that will disproportionally benefit the most from Biden’s “Build Back America” program are the backward red states with pathetically weak governments, small budgets, and suffer the most from decades of neglect. There are hundreds of possible “Flints” out there with aging pipes and serious water issues. Tens of thousands of bridges are crumbling. Flood barriers in many states are already breaking. Airports and other hubs of transport are a national joke compared to what’s happening in advanced economies of Europe and China where “government programs” aren’t demonized. It’s way past time to stand up and SUPPORT and CELEBRATE this recalibration on the nation’s infrastructure.
But you don’t see this on television or the Internet where a myriad of lies about this vital lifeline of financial support pollutes the perceptions of the mindless minions. Never mind that Trump and Republicans who were in charge of the whole enchilada only a few years ago with command of all branches of government and a majority of states didn’t accomplish diddly fuck on infrastructure. Republicans did NOTHING. Nada. Zero. Their negligence is evidenced by roads, bridges, tunnels, and other infrastructure that now resembles a Third World nation. Fortunately, the Biden Administration made this a TOP PRIORITY, ACTED, and then GOT IT DONE.
To be clear, the Biden Administration has done a poor job “selling” the critical importance of the passage of this legislation. While faux PACs twist the facts about the Build Back America program with a bombardment of bullshit ads (always paid for by quasi-secretive “public interest groups” entirely funded by corporations that NO ONE has ever heard of), let’s ignore the fog of lies from these oligarchs who are perfectly happy turning every American city in Pottersville. It can only be “a wonderful life” if we support and DEMAND good infrastructure.
It’s time Joe Biden and Democrats get some credit.
