If Steve Harvey Was Announcing….

Steve-Harvey-1

In case you missed one of the greatest gaffes of all time on live television last night, game show host Steve Harvey blundered in the closing moments of the Miss Universe Pageant by announcing the wrong winner.

A dopey debutante ball that wouldn’t normally be noticed by more than a fraction of shallow-minded sycophants credulous enough to believe beauty pageants matter in this day and age (it’s comforting to know the winner will spend the next year promoting “world peace”), instantly became Internet catnip when Harvey misread the name of the winning contestant, and then had to backpedal in front of a live audience and millions of viewers watching in other countries around the world.

Albeit unintentional and certainly cringe-worthy, here’s the pure comedy gold:

Poor Steve Harvey.  Perhaps the gaffe wasn’t entirely his fault.  That said, the prickly memes have already begun.  Harvey and that sappy beauty pageant will generate far more publicity out of the galactic embarrassment than had the crowning moment gone on without a glitch.  In the coming days and nights, look for Harvey to appear on talk shows just about everywhere, laughing along with the hosts all the way to the bank.  Who knows — this classic flub sure to now be seen by millions might even lead to plenty of future announcing gigs for Harvey.
