Facing the Firing Squad: Lynn Gilmartin
MEET LYNN GILMARTIN
Lynn Gilmartin isn’t just another pretty face with an adorable accent that we could listen to forever. Oh, shes all that, for sure. But she’s also so much more.
In fact, Gilmartin is one of the most dedicated and driven professionals working in poker media today. She’s very much on-the-scene at most major poker events and totally immerses herself into what she covers, wherever it happens. Gilmartin has interviewed just about anyone who’s notable in the game. Her obvious subject knowledge, quick wit, and high-profile stature has made her into one of poker’s most recognizable and watchable personalities.
Gilmartin’s biography at the World Poker Tour website reads as follows:
Adorned with the nickname “LG: Life’s Good” as a teen, Lynn Gilmartin proudly adopted that as her motto and is passionate about sharing her life-loving message with the world. Simply follow her on Twitter or Facebook and you’ll see what we mean!
Whether it was dancing, acting or filming television commercials as a child, Lynn always had an urge to perform. As she finished high school, Lynn became intrigued by business, going on to study public relations at RMIT and marketing at LaTrobe University, both in Melbourne, Australia. It was through her marketing career at her hometown casino that Lynn discovered poker and found herself back in front of the camera.
The Irish-born Aussie has globetrotted for a number of years while immersing herself in the poker scene as a hobby player, well-respected reporter on PokerNews.com, and frequent host of the Aussie Millions and WSOP Asia-Pacific on ESPN Australia. Lynn has traveled through 27 countries, over 100 cities within them, and has plenty more to add to that impressive passport-stamp collection as the anchor of the World Poker Tour and WPT Alpha8.
Maintaining her eagerness to study, Lynn is a certified holistic health coach and continues to learn about nutrition and wellbeing. She regularly shares tips on how poker players can live their healthiest lives to help promote their best game, which you can find on her blog, along with her travel adventures, at LynnGilmartin.com.
Thanks to Lynn Gilmartin for bravely agreeing to Face the Firing Squad.

What are some of the things you stand for?
Life’s Good. If you have the ability to read this blog then you cannot deny that.
What are some of the things you stand against?
Animal abuse. Victim mentalities. Corporate influence.
What living person do you admire the most, and why?
I have to say two — my parents for the unconditional love and support they provide my brother and I. I couldn’t have asked for two more beautiful people to guide me through life.
What living person do you despise?
There are plenty of people on this planet who piss me right off, but I like to remind myself they likely just needed a hug when they were three years old and are still taking it out on the world today. Hug your children, folks.
If money were not an object, what profession would you chose?
Exactly what I’m doing today – performing, traveling and writing. I couldn’t ask for much more and I’m incredibly grateful.
What is it about yourself that you are most proud of?
Waking up to life.
What is it about yourself that you’d like to change?
More predictable hormones. Less procrastination. More rounded elbows.
What’s the most exciting thing you’ve ever done?
At age 24, I quit my secure corporate career in Melbourne to fly over to Las Vegas on my own for WSOP and work as a host on PokerNews.com. I’d never been to the US before, had no idea what I was doing, who anyone was, or even how to play poker (I’d obviously mastered bluffing to get myself there). That was more of a petrifying experience than an exciting one, but it was the beginning of a complete life transformation. I chased my dream and I’ve never looked back.
What’s the most unusual time and place you’ve ever visited?
“The Race Track” in Macau at midnight. Oh boy.
Name a place you’ve never visited where you still want to go?
Favorite book, favorite movie, and favorite musician.
Book: The Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer – it flipped my life upside down in the most amazing way.
Movie: Dirty Dancing will always hold a soft spot in my heart. I could never be bothered with the likes of Mary Poppins as a kid. Instead, you’d find me spinning around the lounge room pretending to be Baby.
Musician: Alanis Morrisette – her lyrics, her voice and all that she stands for. Mix her music with INXS and you’ve got my favourite playlist at the moment.
What upsets you the most?
That so few people are motivated or confident enough to educate themselves about their health — both mentally and physically — and continue to believe they are victims of their own minds and bodies. On a more personal level, living 8,000 miles from my family.
What bores you?
People texting constantly while in the company of others. I’ve dedicated this time to connect with you, not to stare at your hairline.
Do you believe in an afterlife and why do you believe it so?
Heck yes. As if we came here to learn all these daily lessons for almost a century, just to disappear? There’s no way this is it. This is just the classroom.
My favorite quality in a man or a woman:
Open-mindedness and having the passion to continuously learn about himself and life.
