All Wars Need Heroes

It’s early, but we need heroes. All wars need heroes. And they don’t always fight on the front lines.

Sometimes, the front lines mean something very different. A front line can be a hospital, a newsroom, or even a city street.

Just a day into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, scattered protests are already happening in Moscow.  Can you imagine the courage it takes to go out into a Moscow street on a frozen night and protest a war launched by V. Putin? Think of it. Knowing arrest is certain. Knowing interrogation is eminent. Knowing full well that imprisonment, torture, or even death are real possibilities. Even likely.

That’s courage. Just — wow.

Average ordinary Russians PROTESTING are heroes. We need heroes. We need many more heroes. If we had enough heroes, there would be no wars. There would be no Putin, at least not in power.

I urge everyone to pay very close attention to what happens to these brave Russians who will disappear from Moscow’s dark streets and if you can support human rights organizations and international alliances committed to protecting their rights, please do so. Protests can even end wars. Protests can achieve peace.

That is — if there are enough protestors.
