A Word of Thanks — Actually a Thousand Words of Thanks
Today is my one-month anniversay.
That’s right. This website has been live for exactly thirty days.
The time has come to give thanks where it’s due. I want to thank several people who have been instrumental in creating my personal website.
As you glance at this list of names, by no means complete, the prevailing message that should come to you is how important people are to other people, and especially how certain people are so vital to me and my own happiness. I would not be who I am without these extraordinary friends and colleagues.
First and foremost, thanks to Ernst-Dieter Martin, my German-born friend of twenty years who has not only created a site that is easy to navigate but also allows this disorganized polemic to pontificate sans the high-tech shackles. He operates Feliz Applications which can be seen HERE AT FELIZ APPLICATIONS. Even if you don’t like what you read from my crazed mind, but you like what you see, get in touch with Dieter if you have any website needs. He’s a prince.
Next, I want to thank Dutch Boyd. It may surprise many people to know that Dutch contacted me some time ago. He suggested that I start a personal website. Incredibly, Dutch bought my domain name back in 2005. He could have asked for a large sum for me to purchase the name back from him. But he didn’t. Dutch signed over the domain rights free of charge and then encouraged me to go do my thing. Thanks Dutch.
I have a reservoir of freinds that is deep and loyal. I mean, I have an extraordiaty circle of good people around me. I am blessed way beyond what I deserve.
Indeed, if my freinds were oil and I was a nation, I’d be Saudi Arabia. That’s how rich I am in the most important natural resource.
In no particular order, I want to thank the following people who have given me guidance and encouragement over the years to write more, think more, explore more, and push the boundaries if what I know and overcome the fears of what I do not know. This incomplete list includes – Tiger, Kevin Un, Dan and Sharon Goldman, ADB Bingo, Bruce Kramer, Matt Treasure, Bart Simpson, Patti Beadles, Mav, Rich Korbin, Nick C., Peter Secor, Steve Schorr, Chuck Weinstock, Greg Dinkin, Steven TT, Eric Rosenberg, Max Shapiro, Benjo, Chuck Humphrey, Natalie Galaustian, Adam and Debbie Bachrach, Paul and Eileen Berkowitz, Chic N. Steven Goldman, Paul Spitzberg, Uncle Al, and more.
I can’t even begin to list people from the poker world who have inspired me. But I will try — Mike Sexton, Billy Baxter, Todd Brunson, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, Barry Shulman, Allyn-Jaffrey Shulman, Chris Tryba, Chad Brown, Jack Effel, Steve Frezer, Charlie Ceresi, Jessica Hudson, Padraig Parkinson, Kim Scheinberg and JK, Bill Bruce, Eric Harkins, Jerome from France, Klaus from Germany, and so many more. Frenchy from Los Angeles gets special mention here, also. Matt Savage begged me for a year to get on Twitter and now I realize how behind the curve I was.
A few people in particular need to be called out. They are — Seth Palansky, Dave Curley, Alan Fowler, Lukas Willems, and Jessica Wellman, and Gary Thompson. Of special note, Gary badgered me into doing this, saying I would be rich and famous if I started writing up my personal experiences and twisted thoughts. Hey Gary — I’m still watiing on the checks to start rolling in.
A few special shout outs — Kevmath and Marissa Chen and WhoJedi and Crazy Al.
Some pretty cool people high above me in pay grade and status are Ty Stewart and Mitch Garber. Pretty amazing that they let me do my thing, while also allowing me to pursue what I have done for so long with the World Series of Poker.
There are so many writers I trust and respect, that I do not know where to begin. So many writers I know have been so kind with their support. A few names you may recognize — Aaron Todd, Vin Narayanan, Paul Harris, Jennifer Newell, Lance Bradley, Wendeen Eolis, Gary Wise, James McManus, Matthew Showell, Chad Holloway, Eric Ramsey, Remko, Paul Orsteen, Paul Fishman, Rachel K., Lou Krieger, Marc Convey, and Dr. Alan Schoonmaker. Former Brooklyn College professor Dr. Arthur Reber deserves special mention. Above all, I want to thank former Baltimore Sun writer Bill Ordine for his old-school journalism and unshakable integrity as both a man and a writer. Bill now pens “Philly Gambles.” Please visit: LINK TO PHILLYGAMLES.COM
Then, there’s Tony Holden over the in the UK. And, Des Wilson — perhaps the best writer I personally know and a man for whom I have respect more than words can express.
I would be remiss not to mention my wife Marieta, who puts up with it all. She is a saint. Never complains about what I write, what I say, what I think, or how late I stay up during the night. She is a writer’s perfect muse. I love her for who she is and who she allows me to be, which is myself.
I cannot leave out those who have come and read my words and thoughts. That means all of you who are now reading. Without you, I would not do this. The objective of my site is not to get everyone to agree with me. That would be folly. The goal is to discuss, debate, engage, challenge, and shake people from wat I deem as goosestepping conventionalism. Please! Disagree with me! And do post your opinions. When it comes to me or my ideas, anything goes. Bring it on.
Finally, I want to think a few special gentlemen whose names you may know. Jim Beam, Johnny Walker, Evan Williams and countless others encassed in oak and later in bottles have provided the fuel of whimsy that ultimately resulted in what you read daily.
Blame them. Not me.
Here’s to a great ride for many more months and years ahead. Please stay with me. I promise you. We are going to have one hell of a good time.
