Weera Thai [Restaurant Review]

Weera Thai is anchored in a nondescript strip mall on West Sahara, about two miles off Las Vegas Blvd.  From the outside, there’s nothing at all appealing about this place.  It’s the kind of restaurant you’ve probably driven past 100 times and never given it much thought.  Why go here when there are so many other established Thai restaurants that are sure to please?

About five or six or eight years ago, I tried Weera Thai for the first and until today only time.  My visit was on a whim and was so uninspiring, that I remember nothing whatsoever about anything — either the meal or the experience.  See, I can’t even remember how long ago I tried this place out.

Well, Princess Marieta recently read some really positive things about the re-booted version of Weera Thai.  She insisted we had to give them another chance.  Restaurants do change.  New management takes over.  It’s rare, but some may even improve.

From the moment we stepped into the dining room, it was obvious this wasn’t the boring old, non-descript previous version of Weera Thai I could barely recall.  The restaurant has been completely renovated.  It was unrecognizable from before.  Despite our entrance at about 2 pm on a Wednesday afternoon — not exactly rush hour in Las Vegas — almost every seat was full.  This was a very good early sign.  People like to eat here.  Even in the middle of the day.

Table for two!

The menu is quite extensive.  For lunch bargain hunters, the menu options and value is extraordinary — probably the best of any Thai restaurant in Las Vegas.  Lunches cost less than $10 and come with a small salad, a cup of tom yum soup, a fried eggroll, rice, and the main dish (we ordered one cashew chicken and one Mongolian beef).  We also shared a large Wonton soup, which was overkill.  We left completely full and totally satisfied.

Here are some photos of the courses we enjoyed earlier today:

#1  Lunch Special ($8.95) includes a small salad and tom yum soup.

#2  Lunch special was served with the main course.  Here’s the cashew chicken.

#3  Here’s a photo of my main dish, the Mongolian beef.  Also, see the large hot pot of Wonton soup, with flame ($11,95).

I can’t say enough positive things about the lunch menu and the value for less than ten bucks.  The menu options are extensive.  I counted about 30 menu options and all seemed tempting.  Based on some rude curiosity on my part — which meant staring at dishes served to nearby tables — Weera Thai is one of those rare spots where I’d probably be willing to experience with anything on the menu, and for me, that’s really displaying a rare degree of trust in the chef and the cooking.

I hasten to add, that when we admired the dish and presentation of an Asian customer at the next table, she was so gracious that she shared a portion with Princess Marieta.  So, we got to sample a bit of seafood, as well.  It was astoundingly delicious.

As for the cost, I challenge anyone to find a better bargain in Las Vegas for what we received than this.  Here’s the final bill:

The local Las Vegas restaurant scene is already crowded with some wonderful Thai establishments.  We are blessed to be locals here.  In fact, I’ve previously written about Thai restaurants and ranked them in a previous article.  [READ MY TOP TEN THAI RESTAURANTS IN LAS VEGAS HERE — FROM 2015].

Thanks to this new kid on the block, now it’s time to update this list with a new spot that belongs in the top three — right up there alongside Lotus of Siam and Nitaya Secret Garden.  Yes, it’s that good.

Weera Thai is a sure winner.  I plan to return again many more times.  Give this renovated Thai-Issan fare a chance.  Sometimes things do change, much for the better.

Final summation:  Weera Thai receives my highest rating for an affordable bargain restaurant with outstanding food, attentive service, and a very comfortable atmosphere.
